I am planning on changing my 10g to a nano-reef tank and was wondering if anyone has experience using the Fission Nano Protein Skimmer? It looks like the size I want for the smaller tank... Any and all opinions welcome. First-hand experience would be great!

bought it, tried it,.......piece of crap and not worth the money.....you can't give them away after. I tried everything for about 2 weeks, a person shouldn't have to do all kinds of modifications on a piece of equipment to get it to work. Save your money and just do water changes......not too hard on a 10g

They work good for smaller tanks such as a 20 gallon, but if you use it on a bigger tank, it doesnt work well. You shouldnt have to worry about that since you are using a 10gallon tank . I say you should use it, I use it on my smaller 18gallon and it works fine.

I used it on my 10g and all I got it to do was push millions of microbubbles into the tank. The bubble filter doesn't work as it is supposed to. The only thing I ever got in my collection cup was water and it was almost impossible to adjust the right level due to evap etc. This is a piece of junk. Not worth the $25 they charge for it and you can do much better by just being dilligent on water changes, you shouldn't have to skim a 10g if you do wc regularily.....

lorna, it that pic of your 10g tank? I am starting a 20g tank using standard overhead filter. Care to share what must be done?

I am prepared to change water, but how much and how often? Do I mix the salt and then add or wait for a couple of days?

Does anyone have ideas for me for a smaller skimmer to fit in (or behind...) a 10g?

I have one in my 10gal now and it seems to do the same thing.. makes bubbles. But I've been running this tank for a while now and it seems fine just doing weekly water changes. This is my only tank I've had so I really have nothing to compare to.

My avtar is my clam in my 75g. I upsized my 10g to a 20g and use a cpr bakpak 2r on it which works great. I use the aqua remora pro on my 75g which I love.

Dave, the aqua remora nano skimmer is great, the only problem is the cost which makes it a bit prohibitive for use on a 10g.....I still advocate regular water changes to keep that small of a tank under control.......unless you have bookoo bucks you can spend.....I would suggest that a person spend the couple of hundred on more live rock and do weekly water changes....on a 10g we are talking about changing out 10% or 1g a week.....I think my 20g evaps more than that.....thanks to the lighting....and a heat wave.

Lorna, I guess for my 20 gal I can change 2 gal a week? Do you just add the salt to the water and test the Sg then pour into the tank or keep the mix for a few days?
