Floating plants?

What are the best floating plants to get?

I was thinking frogbit or butterfly fern, any suggestions?

I've never heard of those plants.

I'd recommend some of the following, if you have the required lighting requirements

Riccia
Hydrocotyle leucocephalia
Duckweed (Lemna minor, but then again, it IS a weed, and I wouldn't want it in MY tank, but some people grow it)
Java Moss is another good floater
Anacharis (can be grown floating)

Frogbit's a good choice - I have some in my planted tanks. It is great for using up excess nutrients. It spreads quickly, so I'm constantly pulling some out. The long roots make good cover for fish.

I have duckweed because it came free from my fish pond but you can never get rid of it... I easily keep it in check by sucking most of it out during water changes. Frogbit is good, much like duckweed but less aggressive and larger. Java moss will float around the entire tank, not just the surface and it will get entangled in everything. Most people like to attach the java moss to something. Riccia is a bunch of tiny plants like duckweed and frogbit. For my gouramis which love floating plants, I used water sprite. It has great bright green fern-like fronds and its roots hangdown creating a place for baby fish to hide and purifies the water. When they get too large, u can secure them to something. They are easy to propogate because any loose leaf will develope into a new plant.

I'll second that. It's a tough plant that can be floated or plated, grows well and is great fry cover.

I use water sprite in my tanks. It grows like crazy, uses up nutrients very quickly and provides cover without creating too much shade.

I do not like Duckweed because of it's small size.
I like Water Lettuce and Salvinia molesta.

I like Hornwart plants but they are messy though.
