fluffy white fungus??

My 10g tank has suddenly got infested with some sort of fungus I think, there is some fluffy white fungus on all of the ornaments. I took the fish out and they are doing fine in another tank.

I got some stuff at K-mart yesterday that treats tank fungus, but all it seems to have done is turn the water a very bright green colour.
Anyone know what it could be??
 
It takes a while sometimes for stuff to work. Just curious when the last time you cleaned your tank or filters. I'm not saying that you don't clean your tank, but the longer you go without cleaning these things, the more likely your going to have fungus grow. Try doing water changes once a week or the most once every two weeks. Also try taking out and cleaning your decorations if they have been in there for awhile and have gotten dirty over time. Last, test your water, make sure everything is normal.
 
It may also not be fungus - I've read about algaes that look whitish and grow on decorations.
I'd remove all you can by hand, do a thorough gravel vac and change some of the water. You'll have a better chance of eradicating this stuff if you start with as little as possible in the tank, and removing any excess food and waste from the tank should help reduce the nutrients it may be using as food.
 
I had that fungus problem a while too! White and cottonish, right? All over ornaments and gravel, not really bugging fish? I never really identified it, but I did some gravel vacs and used a bit of salt and it cleared up nicely. i think its from excess uneaten food.
 
I have something similar on one of my plants. Its a Corkscrew val and at the fery end of one of the leaves there is this white, almost hairy looking stuff. It covers about the last half inch of the leaf and stands about a half inch tall. Sound like the same stuff?

If so, I have the same thing. It's fuzz algae.

I am new to fish keeping so am not able to give advice but I did read in several places that if this is a fungus (and not an algae) it is sometimes best left alone to see if it will in fact clear up by itself. I don't know if you have a new, or fairly new, tank but from what i've read, the fungus could be controlled naturally as the tank matures and bacteria become more prominent than fungi as bio-degraders.
 
Hmm, It looked a little like that, only thicker. It was really white.

I had to put my betta in the tank yesterday because he was freaking out in the little tiny 1/2 gallon I had him in while I was finding the prob. I thought he was going to die, but he is OK now in the tank, even though it isn't fully cycled at all. I am taking my chances.
 
white fungus? goodbye angels

This white fungus (from the original posting here) started growing on the bottom of my tank (set up 4 weeks ago) and has killed my 3 angelfish. I treated the water etc. but my fish still died. Pet store says it was caused by a bacteria. There is nothing in the tank but gravel, one ornament, filter/heater/thermometer. Left the tank empty for 3 weeks before I put the angels in 1-1/2 weeks ago. I wish I knew what caused this so maybe I can't prevent it happening again. :duh:
