Fluval C2 ongoing review

I think it is about time I update this thread.

The filter is still working well. I replaced the carbon with extra biomedia. I also added a second filter (not a c2) to the same tank but that was because I was keeping bamboo shrimp in the tank so I needed extra flow and not because the c2 is bad at filtering. I still have an extra filter on the tank because I am keeping dwarf puffers in it now (the bamboo shrimp have been moved to another tank) and they are very messy so I figured the extra filtration would be a good idea.

I also noticed that the flow to the drip plate is highest when the flow rate control is at it's slowest setting. I find that odd but I don't mind it.

I would still recommend this filter.

Do you recomend it over a AC filter? i am also going to have a ten gallon dwarf puffer tank.

I do recommend it over an AC filter. If this will be the only filter on the tank then I would get the larger c3 model due to the heavy bioload of dwarf puffers.

The nice thing about the AC filters is you can just rinse out the sponge rather than replace it (like all the manufacturers recommend..gee I wonder why). The sponge in this one in the pic you showed looks like it is in a plastic cartridge. Can you pull the sponge out to clean it and replace it? That would be my only concern as I long ago got past the "let's run out and buy more cartridges" stage

The plastic is more of a frame or holder than a cartridge. The floss/sponge pad is completely removable form the plastic frame.

I don't believe the plastic frame comes with the new cartridges.

With a little work you can even separate the floss from the sponge and replace the floss with polyester batting or similar and re-use the sponge part. I did this yesterday with white felt (the store I went to did not have polyester batting) and it works great.
