for those considering a cannister filter...

OK, was feeling pretty stupid here, so I went to look up some info on UL listings, turns out they aren't the only 3rd party safety group recognized by OSHA, so looking for another companies mark may indicate solid safety ratings as well.....electrical is so complicated, ugh.
I am wondering myself if it is approved by any of them :)

LOL I guess this works... :)

I would guess this would have much larger bio-filtration capacity compare to a large sponge filter?

I wonder how you clean/maintain this baby....
yes it would.... just unplug the hose and let it drain take the stuff out and clean it. really you can do this as large as you want it. many ponds have a system close to this. just pump the water into a 55gallon drum filled with lava rocks and what ever you want and there you go monster filter on the cheap.

On this system how do you ensure you are not over-pumping? I am assuming the container doesn't need to hold much pressure normally.

Ok.. water changes yesterday.. I was curious to see the flow of the new cheapie filter...

I left the filter running(btw the hoses have shut offs on them so you can shut them down and they don't drain.)

I changed 50% water.. the pick up is at substrate level.. substrate is flourite and gravel.

the outlet is on a spray bar pointed out and down..it nearly covers 1/2 the back side of the tank.. the spray was strong ...
the filtter is lsowly being set up as the only fitration on the tank.

still early...but FYI

from time you ordered to time you recieved, how long did it take?

The price etc looked so good, i have ordered 2 of them, Corner tank will be the first tank setup with one of the new ones, mainly because of it's unique shape/config.

Have been following your thread, sounds good overall.... so far.
Will have to add this one as another testbed so to speak

about 5 days
from time of order.. they were very quick. I am considering a second filter from them and lights too. it does not come with media.. so you need to get that . I have extra from all the filters I have .. I run floss and bio balls.

Personally, I stick with UL. Some 3rd party groups let manufacturers self-certify and self-test. UL also does follow-up testing and inspections.

cool should see them tues, or wed then, will pop on back to PS and pick up some floss & stuff in prep., still need another 20# of EC for the 50G anyways.
