Freshwater Crab advice?

I've never had a problem keeping fiddlers/red claws and fish together, and that includes BBGs. If a crab doesn't go after a fish as slow and inactive as a BBG, I don't see them going after anything.

They're also scavengers and filter feeders by nature, and generally feed on land and not in water, so it's unlikely they'd all of a sudden decide to turn into fish hunters.

I can attest to losing a green barb to a Red Clawed Crab (which was kept in fresh water with no access to air and subsequently died shortly thereafter... that was before aquariacentral)

I would like to know the scientific name of this so called fully aquatic freshwater crab though. I would love to have some in my african tank.

I'm pretty sure moon crabs still need land to survive.

"Rainbow" crabs are fully freshwater as well, but they live in river banks above the water level generally speaking.

there may be some in the genus Johora but I am having a hard time finding more information... I can tell that some aren't but I see some search results that may suggest otherwise but I'm not going to pay for a crustacean science journal to satisfy my curiosity (yet...)

I have had neons and a gourami eaten by fidler and red claw crabs. To say that fish will get away is not a safe bet, especially at night. Yes the fish will generally get away, but I saw a fidler catch a neon trying to swim away. Keiferd, just because it's something you havn't experienced doesn't give you the rite to insult someone.

I've kept Fiddler crabs in viv before with tree frogs and other small fish. The tank had a big landing with small but deep pool. The best tank i had so far. The crab took refuge in a potted plant sunk into the dirt floor. he was great to watch. he would run from land to water and back again. That i think is the best was to keep them IMO. But i never new of the brackish needs. He lived long though. Word of advise take them back.
