I have a recently(1 month) set up 75 gallon lightly planted. Currently the tank has 3 clown loaches and 3 yo-yos. All of them are 4 inches and under and this will be their home for the next few years(until they out grow it). There is also a chinese algae eater but he is irrelevant.

What I'm looking for is a mid to upper level swimmer who will not only get along but will do well with the loaches. The tank has some stronger current so it needs to be something that can handle constant movement. I have neons and skirted tetras and a dwarf gourami and some angels in other tanks so I'm looking for something new (I don't really like rainbows for some reason...something about their head shape). I'm asking here first because compatibility charts don't really rate "fish happiness". Would Rams do well? I think their beautiful but hear that they are super aggresive.
Please share your experiences with me, especially if it's to warn against something. Thank you.

Rainbows are said to like current--and they are pretty. I don't know how well they get along with loaches, but there are a huge range of different types of rainbows to choose from, so maybe one would work well in your tank.

I would suggest getting a large shoal of danios.

If you're into extremely hyper-active fish. Personally, they're not my thing.

Maybe some of the bigger rasboras, red-tailed or scissor-tails. I'm not sure about their temp needs, I keep my clown loaches at 81-2*, too hot for many fish, but my red tailed rasboras at 77*. I also have dwarf neon rainbowfish--they don't seem to get that small head-tall back thing the bigger ones get as they age, I don't like that look too much. Most barbs don't stay at the top much, more mid-lower level, I have tigers with clowns. Danios would work, quite pretty in the right lighting but good jumpers IME.

The question was what would do well with clown loaches, and not which fish was your thing. :joke: The fact that danios behave this way makes them the perfect companion for clown loaches.

get glo fish. it's upper and mid level fish and you like danios. i can tell you about rams because i have a pair of yellow. they stay near the bottom for the most time, but will go up for food. they are not agressive untill they get babies or eggs, but even then they are not that bad, just chase everything but don't kill.
