For the whole missile defense thing... I'm trying to figure out whether Paul Martin just wants to make as many enemies as possible, or if he's just an a$$. In any case, for all you americans, know that you do have supporters across the border. :)

It's purely a political move (IMO), intended to show testicular fortitude in standing up to the Americans and their (so percieved) hawkish policies.

I concur with you Cheech. I'm embarassed for our nation.

Freedom costs.

UUUGGHHH!!!!
Come on guys. Is this really the place to air out Canada's dirty laundry?

Bush is nothing more than a 3rd rate Ronald Regan with half the brains and without the people and leadership skills. He is a warmonger extremist that is even unpopular in his own country and his polices have been time and time again proven to not be welcome here. Unless you are Stephan Harper who is even lower down on the leadership scale. He would be a 5th rate Regan.

Martin although I really think that he is putz has just guaranteed himself or at least his party (with a new leader if we are lucky Hello Alan Rock or John Manley) a majority government when this minority government falls.

He only needs 20 more seats for a majority. Quebec will give him at least 15, where the missle defence was most strongly opposed then I'm sure that Dumbass Harper has opened his mouth up and spewed enough verbal garbage to give the Liberals back at least five more seats. If he couldn't lead his band of merry western hillbillies to a victory during the last election when the Liberals were basically dead in the water. He never will.

Think about it who the héll would want to bomb Canada anyways?

The 'big picture' is the missiles flying over Canada to hit the U.S. .....

Let's get our globes out and see how this could happen...

I am on the fence about this subject. I like that he is trying to show independance from the US. However they are our allies and we should support them. But I have constantly heard and seen US/American people poking fun at Canada and our troops. Why should we support a country that thinks its better than us? But then again they are our allies and do help us out alot and we must be grateful and show our appreciation for all that they do for us. I guess my overall feeling would be that sure the US can use our land for the MDS but I think they should have to pay for it in full! Dont ask us to pay for something that you want and we dont necessarily want.

Anyways I apologize if I have insulted any of you with my comments as I really dont have a problem with Americans or the US, I just feel that we can get the short end of the stick on lots of issues and that we can be very un-apprciated for what we do for your country. I mean my family is in forestry. My family made 120K + a year then the US put a tariff on our lumber. We dropped from 120k + a year to les than 40K a year income. We had to lay off 50 people from our company. and B.C, alone lost over
300 000 jobs. We pay more for Canadian lumber than the US does. And when we argued the Tariff the responses were mainly that the US needs the lumber to develope so our needs and jobs were secondary. We lost a home because of it. I am by no means blaming any of you for this. I am merely pointing out why some people may feel that we shouldnt help the US out since they have done things like this to us and shown very little appreciation for it in the past.

Unpopular in his OWN country?? Extremist????? Have you seen his ratings or noticed what's going on in the middle east lately???? You guys need to allow FOX News across the border, it sounds like your government is controlling a lot more than you realize.

Yeah, but in this case, all Bush wanted was an OK!... go for it! Moral support, that's all. Wouldn't cost Canada a penny. I know it's all about politics, but in the end, call it pride, or politics, but it's always a good thing to keep close ties with our neighbors, and I think the way he's handeling things is just going to make it harder and harder on everyone.

Yes we get Fox news up here.

Fox news is nothing more than a Right Wing Pro Bush station. That's it that's all. O'Reilly makes up the facts and the numbers as he goes along. Recently A news program up here did a report on O'Reily and all the facts and numbers he usually spews out and investigated them for accuracy. They weren't. Not only that they found that on more than one occasion he even made up names and events of organizations to help his point along.

He was so made he went on one of his Anti-Canada tiraids. Typical type-A personality, when asked to prove your facts and you have none just start screaming and intimidate the opponent. One day someone is going to stand up to him and he is going to be proven (hopefully on live tv) to be a lying, loudmouth nutcase that he is.

See up here we are at the advantage of not worrying about if the news about the States is skewed one way or the other. They (CTV and CBC) just present the news without the pro or con rhetoric and we just see the facts and the numbers because they have nothing to loose either way.

OK, now I understand your first post very clearly :D

Personally I found the comments that we must get canadian approval first to shoot down missles even funnier. Yea ok, were going to be playing phone tag for a half hour when their are nukes flying around.

I dont know if this is just personal with bush, but that missle defense plan has been around for awhile, and its just getting to the point where its functional.
