Front and Backyard Ponds (Pictures)

Hi everyone. Just wanted to share some picture of our pond.

We decided to do some rescaping this weekend after the pump failed in the front pond. It was just a small ditch 3 or 4 years ago and we managed to fix it up a bit but now the pump just seized and we just decided to pick the shovel and expand and redesign the shape of it.

Heres a picture of it after we fixed it up 2 years ago. unfortunately I dont have a picture of it before this but it was pretty neglected. the rocks were just placed so its in the water almost like it fell into the water and it looked like a very small canal. this took about two weekends to three weekends I think.








I couldnt find a picture of this setup when it was settled and the vegetation grew in after running smoothly for 2 years so ill just post it up later if I find one. Heres what we did friday and have been workin on this weekend.

We took some of the walls down and extended it. Im also gonna dig it up deeper.


This pumps been out of commision for awhile but were gonna bring it back to life





Everything is dugged up deeper and a wider.

Ill post up the backyard pond tommorow but heres a preview of how it started 2 years ago before all the work was completed. the backyard pond took about 2+ months on and off plus all the extra stuff like decks and such.

Looks like a perfect setup for loaches of fast flowing streams and rivers!:headbang2:

You think loaches will do well in there? water temp gets really low in the winter time. clown loach maybe? The top part is probably gonna be koi.

Aww...I just saw your location. That pond just seems so perfect but not in winter weather with tropical loaches. How low does the temperature get?

pretty cold. above water temps can get pretty low.. maybe 60F sometimes lower.. It would be nice though..darn

Any loach is unable to tolerate that low temperature unfortunately. Your only option is the weather loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus). For that pond, try 5-6 of them.

This loach is perfect.. The substrate is going to be sand and this guy can actually tolerate low temps. Ill keep this loach in mind after we are done with the project. Thanks lupin

Cool, Bansart. Let me know if you need any more help. As these fish grow to 8-10 inches max, you shouldn't have a problem keeping 5-6 at that size of pond. You can try 8. The only problem is you won't be able to see them much of the time as they love to burrow underground. They make perfect barometers.:grinyes:

Will do lupin. Ill probaly spend quite a bit of time hunched down trying to spot them but I do that anyway when I collect snails for my puffer.
