Full aquarium setup-please comment and suggest

Yeah if I had room for more than the 39 gallon and 10 gallon tanks I'd have extra tanks that I would sculpture and spread out the species a bit. But for the next many years (I think) I will be stuck with the 39-gallon community tank. I will have to remodel it when I move (I'm diplomat) so that should be interesting.

Yeah I just can't have that much going on. Mine looks like this

Much more bare. It has been slightly modified with more rock but it's still very visible. At some point I will have something in a 29g tall that looks like this for an angel pair to breed in

How beautiful is that

I like how thick yours is but mine would scare me like that. I would always be afraid of some form of plant or waste or species getting out of control. Obviously it can be handled as you have already done but I would freak out hahaha

I like it. I like the big fern looking plant center left. It's not too bad because there's still a lot of visibility in the tank

Wow apparently my tank isn't too overgrown judging from all the comments I've had. My parents think there are too many plants and they can't see the fish. But since they decided to put the tank in the basement where no one ever sees it anyway (unless they are watching a movie or playing games) I'm the only one really studying it and maintaining it anyway.

And I realize my spell check didn't like the word water wisteria so it changed it to valisneria. I'm thinking about changing the filter setting to mid-water current, cutting down on the wisteria and getting some floating plants. But they would probably take too much light from my other plants so the wisteria has to stay.

I thought I was taking a risk when buying six tiny celestial pearl danios but they have actually grown a lot and have gotten much nicer color than in the lfs. Surprise :)

Hey a new idea-why don't I throw out the dead mangroves and set up a moon crab terrarium? With a large water bowl and a sand/"soil" substrate? That would be fun for my ten gallon I think. My mom pretty much dislikes anything to do with terrariums. But she loves crabs, crayfish and shrimp. Thinks they're cute. So a land crab would be cool to keep I suppose :D

before you do, do extensive research. i personally liked my crab tank although i liked how i set it up bot really the crabs. love my crayfish and shrimp though. maybe you could make a walstad style shrimp tank.

Well, I for one love your tank! Especially the jungle of plants, I have a massive broad leafed plant in my 75, it's a solid 1.5-2ft tall (goes from bottom of tank to top of tank) and about 1ft wide. Thats about as jungly as my tank is right now (though there are new plants to help with that, and the T5 light will hopefully allow for greater plant growth). All in all, I love your tank and think it's amazing, snails and all :)

Thank you all so much for feedback! :) I honestly would never thought anyone could appreciate it as I do but it seems I was wrong.

The Walstad principle is pretty cool. I guess that's actually how my tank works.
I really love shrimp and always go around thinking about the ghost shrimp I used to keep in my previous tank before they all vanished. The only shrimp that have ever survived either of my community tanks (I had a 15 gallon for 6 years, before I moved and got the 39 gallon) are the amano/algae eating shrimp.
I absolutely think these shrimp are super cool but they only breed in brackish water and have a larval stage. If anyone knows of a non-aggressive freshwater shrimp of similar size or larger than the amano shrimp, let me know? The main reason I'm not keeping amano shrimp is because of their breeding habits. Otherwise I'd gladly give away over half my snails and let the amano shrimp do the snails job of cleaning. I tried cherry shrimp but they were too expensive and never bred.

Fishfriend 1: the plant you describe may very well be the same I have (amazon sword) as I've seen these grow absolutely HUGE and I've seen some ten year old amazon swords that were pretty poorly cared for and small. Their growth is mainly based on how much nutrients they can get. That's what I've found anyway.
I like a jungle-y tank but if I can ever get a bigger tank I'll make it more structured than what my 39 gallon looks like right now. Maybe just as dense vegetation but with a clearing and some floating plants in the clearing. That way the floating plants won't block out any light for my plants :)
