FW Puffer Question

a danio could kill an oscar if there was that 1 in seventy gazillion chance

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO MESS UP OUR HOBBY BLABLA BLA BLA BLA... (just kidding) :joke:

RTR- great article. Since the Dwarf Puffer ratio is 1 male: 2 or 3 females, should I wait 'till they are sexually mature to get them, so I know I am getting the correct ratio?

Hmmm...seems to be mixed success keeping DPs with other tankmates. I think that (if I do get them) I wil ljust get them with ottos and shrimp. Before anyone gets mad, I'd do that not necessarily because that's the only things that are supposedly compatable, but because I like that setup. I think that DPs are really cool fish and I'm not sure I'd want a bunch of other fish sharing the spotlight with them.

Thank you everyone. :dive2:

Freddy, yes good luck...they are awesome little fish and your set-up sounds fine.

One of mine will ONLY eat blood worms or live blackworms. Nothing else, so keep that in mind. Also, I have found them relitivley easy to sex even at younger ages....try taking a close look at the ones in the store.....Aside from the vertical stripe down the belly, males are also much paler in color than females and the wrinkles around their eyes sometimes can be seen as well. Just take a look and I think youll be able to sex them.

Thank you!

I don't mind wierd feeding requirements (I love preds, most of them having wierd feeding habits) Thank you for bringing this up. I guess I'll try more "normal" foods, but if that doesn't work, fine.

The sexing tips should come in handy. (o.k. that came out wrong...don't be perverted  )

If by normal, you mean flake, dont even bother.........ive yet to see one touch the stuff.

I didn't mean flake, I know that puffers won't take them, I meant non-live foods.

Sorry, I should've been more specific, I couldn't think of a word.

Bloodworms, mosquito larvae and crushed snails is all I've been successful with and believe me, I've tried just about everything I can think of.

I didn't think it'd turn out this way, and I'm glad it didn't turn nasty.
Nah it's good to debate

In a recent newbie thread, there was talk about the eety beety spines, not only on the fins, but hairlike ones on the body on the ottos. This may be the reason ottos don't get harassed, one nip from the puffer and he realizes he is not the boss.

Sorry to butt in on this, but I thought I'd drop the link to the Otocinclus site with the anatomy info: http://www.otocinclus.com/anatomy.html

I've had the otos in my tanks for 2 days now and I'm sold. I have Oto Fever. They are the most *awesome* little guys. Cute too! Remind me of Donny Osmond back in the early 70s. Just TOO cute!!!

Sowwy!

Yeah...you cant not like ottos, great fish that can fit into many different set-ups. Actually this thread should be a Freshwater discussion.
