Hey, what's up everyone!!

Ok, so im it again. Been thinking about it for a while actually. I currently have a planted tank, which i posted pics of a few days ago. the lighting on it is a CF Coralife, 4 x 65 with 6700K bulbs.

Im have always been a little skeptical of the yellowish tint these 6700K bulbs give off. Anyways, i was thinking of going with 2 6700K bulbs, and 2 10, 000K bulbs to achieve the "brighter or whiter" look. However, ive read alot of different opinions, and a lot of people say it gives the tank a "washed up" look, and fish colours seem to get dull.

So anyways, today i was doing some research, and i found that many people were using the GE 9325 bulbs either alone or in conjunction with 6700K bulbs. Now these bulbs are no where near 10, 000K apparently, as they intesify reds.

Here are some pics of comparison of before and after.......

The difference, atleast from the images is pretty darn amazing imo. Now i have heard some say that the 9325K bulbs, since they promote more red or intensify it, can give the tank a "pinkish" appearance.

Now assuming that's true, would mixing 2 6700K and 2 GE 9325K bulbs make things just right?? Would it allow to intensify colours on both fish and plants, yet still achieve the "bright or white" look, rather then that yellowish tint.

Also, would other colours like on blue fish (neons, dwarf blue Gorami) or yellow fish (Golden gouramis) look odd with the GE 9325K bulbs??

Obviously i need opinions of people with these bulbs, but other opinions are more then welcome!

By the way, does anyone know a place around or in Toronto where you can get these bulbs???

I have both

I have both the 6700 and the 9325 bulbs on the 60 gallon tank, a pair of each in each bank on separate switches. The 9325 is much brighter, and I have the 6700s on for the longer time, with the 9325 on for 4 hours midday for a noontime cycle.

I have mostly red fish in this tank, serpae tetras and cardinals, plus a few other fish. The reds look great, I don't think it hurts the blues of the cardinals though.

That is good to hear. I love the way my cardinals look under the 6700KL, and if they look the same, except the reds look better on them on the 9325K, i'll be very happy!!

I just wan't my tank looking brighter basically without washing out other colours. By the way, how does yellow look??

Have you tried both together, and if so whay was the results?? Also, why do you alternate between the two??

About 2 weeks ago I changed my 9325k lighting for 6700k. It is quite a difference in appearance to the human eye but the plant growth has been no different. I still prefer the 9325k look but only because I was so used to it and given time my eyes will adjust to the new lights.

I've been thinking about adding a single 40w 9325k bulb onto my setup to try and get the tone I desire, but that would put me onto more wpg that I want. Maybe it's just me but the 6700k lights seem to give out a green hue.

wpg gets too high with all lights on

I have 4 x 55 watts over 60 gallons, so when all the lights are on it is 3.7 wpg which is too much in my opinion. I don't want to deal with too rapid growth of stem plants and the heavy nutrient consumption that occurs at that wpg level, so I run the 6700s 7 am to 7 pm for 1.8 wpg and add the 9325s just at noontime.

Ya i have some say, that they see more pearling, but i find that hard to believe.

By the way, does anyone know if you can mix 55 watt and 65 watt bulbs in the coralife CF strip lights? It's designed for 4x65, but ill be going 2x55 + 2x65 due to the GE bulbs only coming in 55 watt bulbs.

So basicall, in the light it will be configured this way.......

---9325--- ---9325---
---6700--- ---6700---

or im thinking

---6700--- ---9325---
---9325--- ---6700---

Which would give the better overal mix??

I think that there may be trouble mixing 55 watt and 65 watt, but you need to contact manufacturer to be sure. I'm not sure.

As for color mix, I'd put both of one sort in front or back not mixed. Too weird to see the color change from left to rightl
