Geophagus Tapajos Orangehead breeding facility

Gotcha, but I think more than one male "protected" them. I could be wrong though. Either way, it's a brilliant video and my hat's off to you for breeding them.

wow... those are gorgeous fish... I wonder if my husband would let me set up another tank for those guys...

Get rid of your angelfish in your 65gal and put a few in there!

Where do you live, cause I don't have space for 200 1" fish. I'm gonna need to rid myself of several fish here in a few months.

Thanks HN! A few have been eaten by others in the tank, they started out with probably double the fry you see in the video. I'm just letting nature take its course since this is their first spawn. I will siphon the first batch tomorrow. Right now there are roughly 50-60 fry. Plus about 150-200 eggs from the other pair.

But I *like* my angel fish :) besides, don't they get fairly big those guys? Though they didn't look humongous in the video... I tried looking up some info but didn't find a lot. hmmm... I do have an extra 55g in the basement that is just begging to be resealed though!

The Geophagus Tapajos Orangehead reach about 7" max. All Geo species vary in total length, like altifrons get about 10-12", Pindares stay around the size of Orangeheads.

In a 55 gal....... definitely no more than a group of 5 and that is really pushing it, thought they are peaceful, the bigger the tank the better it is for ANY fish. And I would suggest getting them in groups rather than 1 or 2. They like their own company, plus I think it makes the tank look better rather than having 5 different types of fish in a tank.

They are a beatiful and peaceful SA Cichlid, you will not be disappointed if you ever acquire some.:)

well I mean, I *could* move my angels back into a 55... I mean, my 65 is by no means overstocked... bah, but I'm in Ontario anyway.

Sounds like a plan!

I'm sure there are some floating around in Canada, just keep an eye out for em'.

very cool fish!

Bah, there's probably some floating around Canada. Indeed. And the shipping from there to where I am is likely the same as it would be from where you are! There's certainly nothing fun and exciting in a fishy way where I am. I had to order my africans from online. And I mean, I don't exactly have the rarest africans!
