getting a new tank

you can do a single oscar in a 55 but a 75 is ideal.

No, a 55 is not wide enough for an Oscar. They need the extra width that 75's provide, and the extra volume. Oscars are some of the messiest fish this side of a goldfish.

ive always heard that a 55 is the minimum but a 75 is better. thats always what ive heard, read, and have been told. ive never had one though.

Well basically I kinda wanna get a fish with personality. I love Oscars and have always heard 55 is min but never kept one which is why I asked. Any thing similar to an Oscar but smaller? I'd also like to have something to eat my excess guppies I'm raising

jack dempseys look kinda bleh to me and id only do a big tank if i could do an oscar so maybe wait on that for awhile

I just got a 29 that seems big. But my previous buggest tank is a 10. cant wait to get it set up.
