Getting new fish for my birthday!!!

The pellets you use must be different from the ones I used :) If they really do mush up, then they ought to be ok! I don't have any pellets like that...New Life Spectrum, for example, doesn't mush well. Freeze dried daphnia is going to be just like a powder, which seems like it would soak right up but in my experience powdered fish food doesn't blend as well as you might expect and sticks to everything. I guess because it's protein powder...and protein is the reason why stuff sticks to your frying pan and baking dishes and what not. If you do use it, add it really carefully so it doesn't get on the sides and make it one of the last things you add.

Not only is green bell pepper kind of hard to work with in consistency, it has a mildly bitter taste, so I wouldn't recommend it since it may be detrimental to the taste of the food. I've never had any fish (not even plecos) show any interest in them, since I've tried to feed them when I have extra. Maybe that is just because I am not a huge fan of them, but I wouldn't put them in (I've always seen green peppers as inferior to yellow, red or orange, since they are just an unripened bell pepper).

I've never heard of basil in fish food. I guess it couldn't hurt? Maybe you should try watercress instead, it's very nutritious also and I know fish like it!

If you add a few drops of liquid multivitamins (such as the kind for babies or birds - alcohol free, of course) you shouldn't have to worry too much about the vitamin content.

One of the best sources of protein is tilapia. It is cheap and Thiaminase free (read up on this btw - Google thiaminase fish) so I would consider it a clean protein source...way better than canned fish.

I have API. From what I hear, it works ok. I will try adding the daphnia last, thanks for the tip! Hopefully it works. If not, I know for next time. :)

I will skip the green peppers. If fish don't like them it's just not worth it. I'll have to go take a look at that chart and see what I should substitute for missing nutrients and vitamins.

Basil fulfilled a couple categories towards the bottom of the chart I linked. I could always add both the basil and watercress!

I will look into the multivitamins. Thanks for the tip! :)

The gel food I make has pre-soaked pellets for the base, I also use (thawed) frozen veggies, raw kale (tough stems cut out), and raw (red, yellow, and orange) bell peppers, as well as a clove of garlic. That all gets completely pureed together, like baby food. The only thing that gets boiled is water to dissolve the gelatin, and then the dissolved gelatin gets stirred completely into the pellet and veggie base. Works like a charm, and the fish LOVE it. I also had to make the medikoi pellets into a gel food, when using them, because they crumbled horribly and made a mess of my whole tank. Pre-soaked, pureed with some (thawed) frozen peas, and dissolved gelatin stirred in- no more tank mess, and fish happily eating it. I add the pumpkin for the health benefits, as well as the added color boost. High in fiber, and very nutritious! I eat pumpkin a lot myself, as well.

A ship wreck theme might be cool...

Like if I just get one of those huge 2 piece ones, that would be cool.

With the plants you've already got, one of those big ones would probably pretty much do it! A few larger, natural rocks here & there, and I think you'd be good to go!

Two great minds think alike! I might just get a couple taller plants, a couple rocks, and the ship!
