Is the sand deep enough for RCS? Do they like to dig?
What do you think? Do I have any changes to make? Any suggestions? I think the temp is 75* or around there. Oh, and the bettas are going to be booted out of the tank when I get the RCS.
Your tank looks like a perfect home for RCS. I've never seen any of my shrimp dig, but they do enjoy sifting through the sand for bits of food. I think your sand depth is just about right; I wouldn't go any deeper though. Your temp is fine.
One thing to be aware of is that your RCS may not color up very well with a white substrate like yours. This is normal and doesn't mean anything is wrong with your shrimp. They color up more vividly to blend in better with dark backgrounds. If you were to take a bunch of shrimp from a white sand tank and put them in a black sand tank you'd see them turn darker within a day or two.
They came today! So cute. I bought 10 of them, but she sent 18. LOL! There are 10 that are about 1\2", and the rest are various sized juvies. Amazingly, the females were pretty dark when they arrived. Must not have been too stressed?
pjrichar, I bought 10 RCS for $15 shipped priority mail. Basically they were $1 each, and that seems to be the going price for them.
Either they were much better packed than my RCS were (I bought off ebay last year) or you have much higher quality RCS. Regardless , congrats! I hope they do very well for you.
I have another question: Can you keep RCS and Ghost Shrimp together? Are there any other shrimp that you cannot keep with RCS? I want to get some other dwarf shrimp, but I don't know if they are alright to keep with RCS.
