Glo Fish in Time-out

youre not going to get any more than MAYBE half of what you originally paid for the fish, regardless of how nice it looks. :)

Considering I paid 5.50 a piece for them back in November I should be able to get at least that amount back out of them if not more.
Doubtful. Most LFS's won't give you anything for trade-in fish, not even store credit.

As far as schooling fish, a group of 3 just really isn't enough- you've already seen this with your Glofish (danios). With active, nippy fish, a group of 3 isn't enough to keep aggression dispersed, and they may nip other fish. Or, the opposite can happen- the more peaceful schoolers become stressed and unhappy because there aren't enough of them- it's a "safety in numbers" thing for these types of fish. Regardless, the reasoning doesn't really matter- it's just better to keep schooling fish in groups of 6 or more.

Okay... let say that I get rid of everything but these fish: Weather Loach, Tri-colored shark, 2 fruities, 2 glass cats, stick pleco, albinao cori. What can I get that isn't a schooling fish?

More tetras, corys, and glass cats. These are also schooling fish. I'd go with white skirts, though, as the "fruit" tetras are just dyed white skirts. Then you could get a nice centerpiece fish like blue or gold gourami, or pearl gourami. Or, you may be able to keep an angelfish or 2. I've never heard of tri-colored shark as a common name... what is this fish?

check out www.deathbydyeing.org if you haven't already. I'm assuming you bought the fruit tetras without knowing that they are dyed.

he is a Shark but his body is irridesant silver with black tiped fins. I think it is a Barbaro (sp) I have seen pictures of them and I know he will out grow my tank. I am working on getting a 55 gallon tank set up and I will move the Shark, pleco, and weather loach to that tank.

Bala shark? Those are also schoolers, and even a single bala will outgrow a 55. A proper sized school of balas should have at least a 125 gallon (72"x18") tank. A common pleco can reach 18 inches or more, and should have at least a 75 gallon as they grow larger.

I see that you're in Ohio... Depending on your location, you may be interested in the 55 gallon tank, stand, hoods, and filter that I have for sale. Click on the link in my sig if you want to check it out, there are (bad) pics. Tank is in very good condition and was running up until Memorial Day weekend.

I have a 55 that has been given to me, but I have to get room darkening vertical blinds because there is way to much sun during the day. My current tank lights are only on for maybe 2-4 hours a day because of the amount of light that comes into the living room. I have to have my fish where I can sit and watch them. They are more interesting than any TV program!

Tri colored and Bala are one in the same. And heed the advice for a larger tank. I've had three balas in a 55 for about 18 months and they're all about 6"+. They're still happy and healthy but I know I'm in for a tank upgrade soon - oh well :)

Yep, I hesitated getting it but now being in here (aquaricenteral) has turned me into a "fish geek". The Bala Shark was very small when we got it and it was something that my daughter wanted and I let her get, Mistake. I asked the LFS if I needed more than 1 because the tank was filled with them and they schooled together Very nicley. That was about 2 years and a 10 gallon tank ago. He is about 5" to 6" long and it doing okay but I know I should probably give him up, but he has been with us alone for 2 years. What do you think? If I got other Bala's of the same size that would be it for my 55.
