People who are against this type of stuff and protest about it are called "PETA freaks!"

PETA freaks are those who go way too far trying to "protect" animals. PETA is a fruitcake organization run by a nutcase. They put more animals to sleep than they save each year.

I voted yes. Like it or not genetic alterations is happening and will continue into the future, is it right? That's for YOU to decide. It's going to be common in the future, I'm positive of that. If it can help save lives or cure people of terminal illnesses I say do it.

(I'm wearing the latest model flame suit so if you must, go ahead.)

What a magnificent Statement! Especially the First one!!!!!!!!

I just ran across this article and could help but read every post, For I have Three Glofish schooloing with three Zebra danios, The ONLY reason I have three is because my LFS only had three left by the time I got there! And as far as everyone hollering about Genetic altering, well Lets think about this! Most corn we eat today, for example, is a hybrid, as are most tomatoes and other vegetables. When things can't mate, you can still mix genetic information from two different species, but you have to do it in the laboratory with special techniques. And what about Genetic altering in the medical field? "Gene therapy carries the excitement of a cure-all for a host of diseases, the controversy surrounding the altering of human genes, and the promise of a type of medical treatment most of us would never imagine possible. With its potential to eliminate and prevent hereditary diseases such as cystic fibrosis and hemophilia and its use as a possible cure for heart disease, AIDS, and cancer, gene therapy is a potential medical miracle-worker." So its alright to Genetically alter the things we eat, Its ok to treat Human sickness with Gene theropy, But It's NOT ok to Alter a Zebra danio?

i vote "no" but mostly just because i think they're ugly and way too expensive.

i wonder what would happen if a glofish and a normal danio bred!

Most likely mixed offspring with some glofish and some normal.

I don't have anything against them and they're definitely no worse than some of the commonly accepted and even encouraged practices in the industry. I'd probably buy a school but they're not worth the cost IMO.

Anywhere from $6 to $16 depending on where you live and your LFS. My LFS was selling them at $8 each. To get a minimum school of 5 would've cost me $45 or so, including taxes.

I can't believe so many people are against this. Humans have been modifying living things for thousands of years. Glofish may not be "natural," but who keeps true wild-type goldfish? Or carp? Is your dog a wild wolf, or has it been slectively bred? What about farm animals? Ever seen how scrawny a wild turkey looks next to a domestic? Ever seen how cows or chickens started? Selective breeding is just a form of genetic modification — only now we can pick exactly which genes we want to modify. Same thing for genetically modified plants. Do you have any idea how many stalks of wild wheat you'd have to harvest to bake a loaf of bread? Almost all fruits and vegetables we eat are quite different from their original wild forms. Genetic modification is just the evolution of selective breeding. BTW, I think wild danios look better than the modified versions — and that includes the ugly long-finned versions. They're not "natural."
