Okay... so call me crazy, but for whatever reason, I was no longer in love with my calvus and comps. I was looking at my tank, and I was thinking to myself... I thought "Self, you are no longer in love with your calvus and comps. Now what? New World cichlids? Something cool, like electric blue jack dempseys maybe? Hmmmm...."

As I was thinking that too myself, I go to my club forum (I am a dues paying member of the CCA), and suddenly, I see a post where a senior member is selling groups of tropheus.

I thought to myself "Self... WOW... LOOK AT THOSE!"

The decision was made. Tropheus, Pemba it is! Now... they are vegetarian. Having meat eaters in there with them? Eh... maybe not a good idea for an inexperienced, new tropheus keeper. Ah... but gobies... those cool, Tang gobies...

And here we are, finally. To the point of this entire post. What do you guys think about gobies... species suggestions? I have googled them and been reading, but any advice or points of reference for further reading is appreciated. Not to mention, maybe a source who may be selling some. Preferrably in MD... but doesn't have to be. Thanks!

I love gobies! Spathodus Erythrodon is the only one I really have experience with and they are so much fun. They have big personalities. They are the first to come up to the glass to see what's going on in the room. They like to explore in shells and rock crevices and are constantly on the lookout for food. I have seen Eretmodus cyanostictus and Tanganicodus irsacae before, and they seem to have similar behavior. Keep them on a tropheus diet to avoid bloat. I highly recommend them!

Sorry, can't tell you where to find them locally... There are a couple people in Chicago that sell them, but that won't help you. Atlantis Fish Hatchery (cichlids.net) sometimes carries them and ships.

Awesome! I'll check 'em out! Thanks for the reply!

Gobies and Darters are cool. They are like aquatic dogs. I have some Knights Gobies and Rainbow Darters.

Gobies are awesome little fish. They're not aggressive towards other species, but are very aggressive towards one another, so be sure you have space for them to run and hide from each other.

That having been said I've purchased both Eretmodus cyanostictus and Tanganicodus irsacae from Reserve Stock Cichlids, and they also ship. I just got 15 Cyprochromis leptosoma shipped air cargo to Virginia with no losses.

Those knight gobies are super cool! I think the kind of goby I need though is a goby cichlid from Lake Tang. They have the same diet as the Tropheus, which is highly vegetarian!

Be careful Rich those Gobies will bloat easy as well.. You could do a Troph and Goby setup using spirulina and veggies for a diet..

I am nervous, man... I do know they are vegetarian, preferrably, due to bloat, and planned on an all veggie diet. If you think I still should be concerned, PM me your thoughts (or post them here... either way). because I was kinda thinking about going EBJDs before I came across the tropheus. I'd love to know your thoughts, being you are someone I trust very much in this hobby.

Thanks Rich me and you are alike in this hobby just from reading your comments I too got tired of most Tangs and currently I am keeping different setups I have a Central American setup a South American setup a Specie CA setup and a Malawi Hap setup, I changed completely over to different Biotopes I still have a couple Tangs left but they are in the Malawi setup and i fear i will get rid of the Malawi's and switch over to Oscars and Geophagus..

I like the thought of the EBJD they get big and look great so i could not blame you, as for the Tang Veggie's i used to have a colony of Troph's but i lost them all to bloat and i was careful but you may have a different experience with them but just baby them on the Veggie selections and watch how much you feed them and you may be OK..
