gold gorami pair and ______ gourami pair? help

Oh...you know I never read the initial post date - just saw new reply when looking in...I wonder why folks resurrect these old threads.

Eric

Probably because I was coming along with the exact question that you all are answering. What gourami's can be kept together. I am just trying to work out what will go in a 30 gallon peaceful community tank. I like gourami's. I've kept them before and have not had them fight, but I'm hearing other stories.

Has anyone here kept dwarf gourami's with honey gourami's, or with rainbow fish?

Carla

HI Carla G I have had dwarf red gourami with the biger variety and I have not had problems. I had mating paradise, blue 3 spot and a gold. I may have had good luck, but this was over 3 years. My advice the only way to know 100% for sure is to try it. I have heard many conflicting stories and then in the end tried it myself, somethings are true others are not. That is my advice, and I love gouramis too.

Sparkling and croaking gouramis for me. Both are Trichopsis pumila and Trichopsis vittata respectively so different species. I've tried the dwarf gouramis with dwarf neon rainbowfish and threadfin rainbowfish but the tank is pretty large instead of a smaller compartment. What species are your rainbows? I would advise that you be more specific with the species you have so we can help right away without further questions.:)

Thanks for the feedback guys! My tank is in the planning stage. Best time to avoid disasters, I reckon. I am looking at roughly this possibility, give or take.

50 gallon tank 6' long by 14" deep. Possibly bigger....we'll see.

5 or 6 Sids
? Clown loaches
2 - 4 Dwarf Gourami's
2 Honey gourami's
4-6 Rainbow fish (possibly dwarf - not sure of what's available here)
2 Ottos

I love Clown loaches but want to keep them happy if I get them. I may need to go with even bigger tank.

Or I might get a few more Sids and maybe a few swordtails to fill it to capacity.

Do I need the Otto's or do Sids eat algae?

I'm going for a happy, peaceful and fun community tank that is entertaining and colourful. The loaches, of one sort or another are a must must have.

Suggestions anyone?

Carla

I'd stick with more sids along with your current stocks. Do note the clowns will eventually outcompete the rest of the bottom dwellers for food. Sids do not eat algae. They prefer protein-based diet. The other alternative are Pangios.

Thanks Lupin and Bethkira. I think I'll go with 8 or so Dwarf gourami's or Honey Sunset gourami's. I found a website that recommends 3 males to 5 or 6 females for a peaceful tank.

Everything I can find about rainbow fish indicates that they are peaceful with each other and other species. I think blue rainbow fish would look great with red gourami's.

I have my heart set on Clown loaches. My all time favorite fish! It's costing me a fortune to provide the ideal environment for them! I'll just have to keep an eye on the Sids to make sure they get some of the chow.
