I wouldn't call Amano books cheap. Even after all these years they are still pretty expensive. Kinda lean on information too
There is a new book out now called The 101 Best Aquarium Plants, that has information and photos on 101 different plants and about a third of them are the rare collector plants everybody on the internet always talks about and have never been written about in any books before.
An interesting side note to this book is many of the photographs were contributed by well known hobbyists you know from the forums! There is even a photo in there that I took!
In addition to the information on the plants, there is also info on Dutch aquascaping, Amano aquascaping, and natural aquariums.
It is a soft cover, stitched bound, pocket size book. Mary Sweeney is the former editor of TFH magazine and has written several aquarium books.
You can read more about the book HERE
If you want to learn more detailed information about authentic, traditional Dutch aquascaping which very little has been written about, you can read a feature article I wrote for FAMA magazine after interviewing actual Dutch artists and showing their photos for the first time. The article is now on my blog HERE There is also an article there I wrote for FAMA on minimalistic aquascaping.
