Hey guys, I (well my dad) just bought a 25 gallon aquarium with the following:

-Tank (24x12x20) (basically a 20 gallon with 5 gallons more of height)
-Canopy
-Lighting
-150 W Heater
-Alcohol Bulb Thermometer
-Water Conditioner
-Seascape Background
-Aquarium Handbook

**ALL NEW**

for $56.25 (US) from EBay.

The reason I bought this is because the 20 gallon tank I have now doesnt have a canopy or lighting, and that would cost be about $75 (US) from Big Al's. So I figured why not get a 5 gallon more tank and all that for a less price ;)
Also if the heater that this comes with is in good condition, I can return my current heater from Big Al's for $30 (US) :D , which would give me back more than half my money.

Now heres the question:
Good Deal? Bad Deal?
Why?

Sounds good to me, well priced and getting a bigger tank is always good.

If you are planning on live plants, check what kind of illumination you have. Else, you should not worry tooo much about it.

Congrats for your buy. Just remeber to cycle before you add fish.

Yup :D :D :D Man im soo happy right now.. I do have live plants.. They have been growing well even without lighting, but I figure they should grow even faster now. Also do I really need to cycle, or can I just put all my water from my 20 gallon and all the gravel n stuff into the new tank?

Put the gravel and some water in there, then use your established filter to transfer most of the bacteria. You'll still have to "cycle", but it won't take a long time!

Good job on the buy!

If you transfer everything -water, gravel, decoration and filter- from the old tank to the new one, you should have a "instant cycle", and be ready to drop your fishy in there. The transfer must be done quickly and nothing must get dry.

After transferring them, do daily checks on your water parameters for about a week (specially ammonia and nitrite) to make sure everything is working fine. Also, remember the dechlorinator on the water you'll use to fill those extra 5 gallons.

*** Edited for typos correction.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. :cool2:

I got a used 55 and all equipment (including an undergravel filter and Aquaclear) for $70.

Most of the beneficial bacteria in your tank will be in your filter media, it might take less time to cycle with all of that water and gravel in it from your other tank, but unless you are going to put the current filter you have on the new tank i would be careful.
