Sorry but this thread made me think of this video

Lol, that's why you need to hold large caliber handguns with a tight grip. That happened to me when I was 7. I was shooting one of my dad's .44 Magnums for the first time and it cracked me in the forehead. Believe me, you only make that mistake once!

I haven't had any problems with my Ruger 10/22. I shot it the other day out of the box and I was hitting a beer can at 40-50 yards away standing up no prob. But if you want a bolt action then get a bolt action. Nothing wrong with that.
The reason I want a bolt action is, because oh I dont know, they do teach accuracy, and I spend more time aiming, less money on ammo. And I want to have a target at 100 yards see my dad blast every little space around the target except for the bulls-eye, then plant one center :)

I still havent ruled rugers out, because I still dont know exactly what my present budget is, or this would be alot easier.

+1 for a bull barrel Ruger 10/22. With a halfway decent scope, you can hit anything at almost any range.

Personally, I love CZ weapons. I have several and my dad has dozens (he has a fire arms sales license).

If you are positive you will get a scope, then I would suggest a CZ 452 varmit. Alternately, the CZ 452 scout (on a budget) or the 452 Style (if you like nickel barrels and black polymer).

That being said, I would also suggest that you look at the Sig/Hammereli Trailside. Yes, it's a pistol, but it's a Hammereli pistol. It's about the same price as the rifle and the 6" barrely is probably just as accurate as the rifle out to 150 yards. With a scope, it'll go much farther. I put 9 rounds in the top of a coke can at 60 yards with iron sites (they are adjustable).

Hope that helps and let us know what you get.

Oh another REALLY fun one is a Puma (yeah, I know, but trust me) lever action .38/.357. The pistol ammo is cheap and it's a lot of fun with the lever action.
Yep those were the models I was looking at, I dont like the 452 style too much, idk why, the varmit is awesome, and I dont like how the scout is shortened. It says its a great gun for kids, I'm almost as big as my dad, and nearly as tall, I dont want a kids gun.

So if I had to go for one of those, it would be the varmit, but hopefully, I can find one used, maybe with a scope :)

Well, you say first gun but it sounds like you've been handling guns, such as BB guns already so it's not really a first gun.

See if you had never handled guns at all, then I'd suggest a good single shot .22.

But I think you are ready to go a bit past that.

And you want low priced but don't really say what that is.

A Ruger 77/22 bolt action is a real nice gun. The rotary clip is nice too. I just hate the clip rifles with those magazines that stick out the bottom, it really hurts the carrying of them. Might be a bit more than you want to spend.

The Marlin 981T which uses a tubular magazine is a pretty good gun. Probably about the price range you are looking for. Take a look at that.

Marv
Thats a niceeee gun. Only concern is the price, I would love one of those, but would probably have to find it used.

ok...im a country born n bred fella and i personaly cant remember ever NOT having a gun of my own. bb guns are for children (under 10 imho) this fella is a young man! i was raised hunting and fishing on our farm in the BIG town (1 redlight yall n it didnt work!) of ... Utica, Mississippi. my first REAL gun was a 22 and theyre great for squirrell rabbit, and target. now....your 16 and quite capable of work n earning monies on your own, so i would suggest you start you a savings so next year..if ya want.. you n dad can go get ya a 410 shotgun. not so great for target but i was never a good enuff shot to get many squirel er rabit with a 22 lol. pluss, not alot of recoil and with slugs are great for deer and with shot theyre great for squurel n rabbit. just my opinion so its only worth whatever its worth! ;-) good luck!

If I lived out in the country and could hunt often, a shotgun would be on top of my list. But because we live in a residential area, hunting with anything more than a pellet gun is illegal.

A good small caliber is a savage .17hmr rifle. Its a good round, and I have a thumbhole version that's accurate as hell. IF YOU WANT A CHEAP SHOOTER NOTHING BEATS THE MOSSIN NAGANT. the 7.62x54r rounds can be bought by the 100's for relativly cheap, and the rilfe can be picked up for 75-150 depending on model and condition. I have a 91/30 sniper (yes its an actual sniper, not a modified base nagant) that i can hit anything i point it at with, no matter the range.

mike

OHhhhhhh that savage is sweet, that looks like a good gun, and I like the size of the bullet. And the Mossin Nagant, man, you dont know how bad I want one of those, just to have. I grew up playing ww2 video games, man, and that was in everyone :) But Im concearned about the condition one might be in. THose two guns are added to my listttt!

I would recommend a bolt action.. if fed with a detachable magazine. find one that allows or converts to single shot.
(this is usually done with a magazine insert that set the follower to allow one round.)
shooting is a discipline. a single shot will allow you to conserve and help you towards making every shot count.

while a 10/22 is fun.. it is too easy to load and just bang away, sending multiple missiles down range in hopes of hitting the x ring.

My thoughts exactly

I think what I'll do is right down these guns, then go with my dad to a pawn shop, or the local gun store, show them the list, then see what he suggests and what my dad lets me buy.

:rofl::laugh:
at Krytans video

(utube?)

actually that is from improperly holding a large caliber hand gun

(notice locked elbows?)

;)

A FLIPPIN SUPER SOAKER!!!!! THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUN!

This one right here, if you can swing it.
http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/rimfire_rifles/model_572_fieldmaster.asp

It will shoot shorts, longs, long rifles, any .22 Rimfire you can get except Magnums. Put a good scope on it, it will dance cans at 100 yards easily. And the heavy barrel will allow for extended shooting sessions.
Autos can be fun, but most are picky about ammo (except maybe the Remington 552).

I have a 572 with a 3-9 power scope, my son and I love it!

Awesome! My current desire is the all mighty dragunov....

My current arsenal...

ruger 10/22
ruger mini 14
bolt action 22
bolt action savage 17hmr
nagant sniper
winchester 30-30
m1 grand (absolutly awesome if you can get a good one)

for zombie protection..haha

20 gauge remington
double barrel 12 gauge (grandpa gave it to me :D shoots awesome and will kick you on your rear)
and finally the biggest and badest..

remington sp-10 magnum...

Oh and I have a 1863 musket.

I need to get a higher power small caliber rifle, i like the larger calibers, but my local range isn't letting me shoot them anymore *shakes fist*

OH and before anyone starts calling a pysc ward on me, I used to compete with the majority of those guns in both skeet and range. I have won 6 first, 8 seconds, and 12 thirds with the nagant, and 3 with the .17hmr, I keep getting killed by the .223 hunters.
