We are going to be putting 10 endlers in my daughters 14 gallon tank and would like to add some other fish too. What would be a good addition? Keep in mind this is a 12 year olds tank, so the brighter and busier the better.

We are new to this hobby and dont know much about different kinds of fish so need all the help we can get. Im willing to do the research if somebody can point me in a direction. She is interested in zebra danios, glowlight danios, cherry barbs and cardinal tetras but is open to pretty much anything.

I know the endlers will multiply and we have a spare 10 gallon we will set up as a fry tank. I have spoken to a new pet store that opened recently about an hour away and the owner said she would gladly buy any fry we get from any fish or snails. She said they are aiming to keep as much business as possible local, we are in a very remote area and nothing is easy to come by around here, and that in her experience, home raised fish tend to be healthier and they have fewer deaths since there is no shipping and less stress transporting them.

I think that the types of danios you suggest really need a bigger tank. Celestial pearl danios would be a nice choice, if you can find them. They're small, about the same size as endlers. A 14 gallon tank doesn't give you a lot of choices. Neon tetras would be okay, if you got a school of 6 or so. Cardinals are a little bigger, and might overload your tank. I think barbs would eat all your endler fry, which a 12 year old isn't likely to enjoy.

You could also consider dwarf corydoras, if you could find them.

The endlers will amaze you with their reproduction. I suspect you'll end up separating them by gender, putting the females in the 10 gallon. Otherwise, you'll be overwhelmed at some point in the next year, and your tank will have crashes due to overcrowding and poor water quality.

I hope this helps.

The dwarf corys are a good idea, but with 10 endlers there really isnt that much room left. Zebra danios like larger tanks because theyre very active. Cherry barbs are probably a little bit too aggressive for endlers and cardinal tetras are too big for you to be able to have a school of them. Maybe a few neon tetras.

what about something like some pygmy/dwarf cories to add some energy to a different level of the tank

I like that idea. Ive seen some really cute ones, I think they were diamond corys or some shape like that. I will have to look around and see what I can find.

+1 on that^
RCS would be great, tigers would be even better as they are more active or ninja shrimp because they camouflage:)

I personally would get...............
6 endlers
6 neon tetras or even green neons if you keep up with maintenance(WCs, etc.)
4 pygmy corys or shrimp

but for that I would be doing like 50% wc weekly
