Got caught up in the DIY background hype...

that is really looking sweet! Nice techniques. I wish I had seen the thread when you were carving the foam so I could have reccomended the hot wire technique that is popular with a lot of model builders... you can basically heat a wire or coping saw, and it will slide right through the foam with no debris. you can make curves etc by flexing the wire in different directions, if it is firm enough.

Thanks for all the comments! I've heard of the hot wire technique before, but I never thought to try it here! Doh! Oh well, done now. I'v emade the fiberglass shell on the other side now as well, but my GF has the camera with her, so I can't update :p

speaking of lights. If you do decide to go with LEDs, I recommend the link in my sig. They are cheap, BRIGHT (or dim, depending on needs) come in many colours, and you can buy 50 of them for like $10 shipped, and they throw in the resistors to run each bulb on 12V.

buy a laptop power supply, and you could run thousands of them :D

Depending on what you want to do with lighting, you could get a really good effect I think by putting one or two ultra brights at the top, shining into the large area.

it would give a nice glow to the caves.... maybe some different colours. red, or amber?

Caves design looks really good. The red one almost looks like a brain; is that the final coat?

Keep up the good work.

Oh no! that's just the raw fiberglass. I thought it looked neat too! it will be covered in grout and painted like real rocks like the other side though.
