Got the new tank set up

Well at least a good part of it anyway...
It is the new 36" series from Marineland, I love it!

Now I need to get a light fixture or two for it. I was looking at T-5's but think I'll go with a MH instead so I don't have to worry about it getting enough light. It is 26" deep as well so I don't think the others would reach as well down to the bottom. I put my PC one from the 75G this one replaced and it seems like a tropical light compared to what it did on the 75G.

I love how I can now stack rock along the back AND bring it out the front too, it allows so much more as far as reef-scaping. :headbang2:

Very nice! You have such great small rock pieces to work with.

How tall is the tank+stand? Can you easily view the top? If so, I would suggest a aquascape like this:

The darker portion would be taller than the front portion. From the top and the sides you could view the fish swim in between the two structures. Maybe even create some cliffs.

I do like your current aquascape too, I just wanted to offer some suggestions since you have the advantage of aquascaping before corals and fish arrive.

The BIG pieces are underneath all the smaller ones. I had bought about 80lbs+ of just base rock and it had a couple very large pieces that I didn't break up because I knew I wanted to do something like this.
Yeah, I do still have like 32lbs. live rock prepaid at the LFS to get, I was thinking of doing an island type thing in the one (or both) front corner and possibly a nice piece of flat to make a cave or similar.

Still cloudy, will post better shots from front and top so you can see what I have so far and make any suggestions.

I did get a canopy for it so don't know about looking in from the top. I think it's about 4'6" or 5' to top of tank. I'm 6'2" and needed a step stool to put the rock in!

Nice top down shot. Looks like you won't have trouble with coralline growth. You have a nice piece covered in it. Is that a stomalla snail in the third and fourth picture? lol its a familiar site that I see in my 24G.
 
Very nice. But I'm going to have to admit that I have never seen a square aquarium... I must be living in a hole.

lol square open top aquariums are a very popular fad. I recommend viewing some pictures of a setup solana reef tank. Makes me drool :drool:

I had never seen one either, unless it was custom built... that's why I had to get it!

I wanted something that I could put a sump on and get rid of everything in the tank except powerheads. I was tired of seeing the nem. on the move and coming close to the heater so many times too.

I do have a question on the skimmer though...
I have a Bermuda 3C in the sump but this is my first time running a skimmer that isn't H.O.B. There is a fitting tapped in the side of the collection cup, it is a 90 degree with a hose barb on it. There is a same sized fitting on the lid, this one has a threaded plug in it. How should this be set up? Does the one with the hose barb get plumbed to something else? It seems whatever is going into the cup is just running out this fitting.
I know it won't collect much right now but I'm trying to get the flow right and have it ready to go.
