Had one that literally almost killed me. I was maintaining a constant temp of 104.5, could not eat anything, could not drink so much as a teaspoon of fluid, could not sleep. In the first 6 days, I lost 30 lbs. (Mind you, this is when I was 17... at the time I was 6'3" and 165lbs... I didn't have the weight to lose) By the time I finally got to a point of asking my dad to take me to the hospital, I was practically delusional. My sinuses were so packed that they were literally draining through my tear ducts into my eyes. I pretty much couldn't see anything at that point... everything hurt... I had a HORRIBLE cough, (bronchitis) which ultimately ended up cracking a rib. My throat hurt so bad that every time I coughed, I wanted to cry. (and I'm not exactly a sissy... I've taken more pain in my 22 years than most people experience in their lifetime)
I'll be honest, I don't remember every diagnosis they made while I was at the hospital... but what I can tell you is that when I got there, they had me in a room with 5 nurses before my father could even start the paperwork. The admitting nurses were afraid I was going to die right in the Emergency waiting room. They pumped 2 liters of saline solution into my blood to try to rehydrate me... and of all ironies, the tech putting the IV in was in such a hurry that they completely forgot to purge the 4' bubble in the line prior to hooking it up. I'm lucky that didn't kill me. My dad looked like he was going to rip the dude's face off... or at least from what I can remember. They had to put some UV dye in my eyes and inspect them to see if my corneas were damaged. (not too bad... but they were both scratched up) They ended up doing 2 ct's and a bunch of x-rays on me that night too. I do remember that I had bronchitis, conjunctivitis, eye infections, (beyond the sinuses draining into them) ear infections, and some other REALLY bad stuff that happened to my GI track. All from some unsanitary conditions at work, and a lack of proper protective gear. (Yes, could have had a huge lawsuit if I found a way to prove that it was their fault)
Full recovery took me just shy of 4 months... all the mean while I was back at work, pushing carts in the rain with a broken rib and a horrible cough. (by myself, since they lost several employees, and the machine to assist with gathering carts was broken... mind you, this was for a HIGH volume Target store in Anaheim Hills, CA)
Yeah.. bad experience. :\
