i think they are cool. i would love to have a thriving food culture. will all tubifex live in an aquarium, or is this an isolated incident?

Tubifex are aquatics. I've heard conflicting accounts on their water quality needs- some say they thrive in nasty water, others say they are very sensitive to water conditions.
I wouldn't agree with the thriving in nasty water, but only because my tank parameters are as good as they could be: Ph 7, Nitrate 0, Nitrite 0, Ammonia 0. I actually think they might be beneficial for keeping it "clean."
It is heated with a preset heater that sits at 76 degrees. I feed the shrimp snail jello, flake food, boiled veggies (cucumbers, zucchini, beans, etc), veggie sticks, algae wafers, and sinking pellet fish food.
You should send some to Jaysen. From what I see he is in New York and you are in Maryland - not too far for the worms to go. You might have a thriving business in its infancy with these worms.
I'm going to work on getting my shrimp out of the tank and then do some research to see what needs to be done to "cultivate" the worms. I'm certainly not going to dedicate my tank to them. LoL. However, I have a styrofoam cooler that I may try to keep them in. I just don't know. I've even though about listing the substrate, including worms, in the classifieds. LoL
Or Ebay! A little while back someone was selling hair algae, and there were takers! Just about anything will sell on Ebay.
With that great diet no wonder they are healthy "super worms". Your inverts eat better than some people.
