Gotta love petco adoptions

thats how i got my 7" blood parrot. dead now

I used to bring fish in to petco all the time. I would get oscars cause i love them and when they got about 6"-8" I would bring them in. I still do bring fish in. I brought my black shark not to long ago. I'm always glad to see someone takes them. I just hope their tank is big enough. I like keeping my fish though, so no more oscars until I have a big enough tank for a group of them. Anyways awesome find.

How does the adoption thing work? What if you have fish that you are looking to pass on to a new owner? Does Petco take them on assignment, buy them from you, or do you simply give them to Petco in the hopes of someone finding them?

I'm trying to offload a few fish that are too large or out of place in my tank. Recent purchase, and the fish came with the tank. I'm stuck with them until I can find a decent home.

I'm really curious what Petco might be able to do for me.

Joe

I usually call first. Everyone at Petco knows me it's crazy! Anyways I ask if they have room for a "insert fish type" that is "insert length". They look through their tanks and tell me if they have room and to bring it in. You just give it to them, they ask for a small adoption fee which is then donated to the humane society.

When I asked petco to take a fish they said no. They said nothing about adoption, they didn't ask what kind or what type of fish, they just said "no."

Maybe it is different from store to store.

I wish I had some big clowns. :( I've had 3 of mine for a year and they are only 3" now. They grow VERY slowly. I'd have to guess 4-5" clowns must be already 3-4 years old. =(

I hope you have some buddies for them! 2 will not be very happy all alone!

Start feeding them bloodworms and brineshrimp, anything high protein. Trust me, they will grow!! My clown loaches have gotten really big in the last few months ever since their bloodworm diet. Gotta get my 80g set up in a hurry.;)

I believe they're independently run/operated so practices do vary from store to store.
