just to point out, since no one has asked how large of a tube the OP is using.
the python is a 5/8" tube, connected to a piece of 2" PVC basically.
the larger part does a wonderful job of stirring up the gravel in the large 2" piece, and sucking out the debris.
the gravel is simply too large to be sucked completely up by the larger piece, due to the change of flow (designed this way).
i dont know why anyone would say a python/gravel vac isnt worth it.
though you can build one yourself for cheaper i think. Buy a waterbed drain and fill kit... same thing, different colour
