greech's Simple 40 Breeder

Well I went and bought a carpet anemone for one. Unfortunately I made a lot of changes to the tank all at once trying to accommodate it and I killed it. Well I shouldn't say that, they are pretty difficult animals to keep so it may have just been bad luck. But anyway I bought the skimmer because the nem was going to produce a lot of waste and my little HOB filter just wasn't going to cut it. Plus I had just added my sump shortly before and thought I would give it a try. I'm really glad I did too. My water quality from a nutrient perspective has been really good and it has afforded me the opportunity to feed my corals quite a bit without having to freak out about polluting my tank.

The NAC3 is a really good skimmer for the $. I know someone that has a 29 gallon seahorse tank (lots o' poo!) locally and that tank gets fed 1.5 cubes of mysis per day but corals get target fed. The skimmate that comes out of that thing every 3 to 4 days is so dark and nasty. It also broke in fast. I'll check tomorrow and see what depth of water it is submerged in and get back to you.

Thanks Greech about finding out about the water depth for the skimmer. I didn't know you got a sump? I must have missed that in your thread. How do you like having a sump? I do love mine. Makes it a bit easier to do things like water changes and top offs, plus putting equipment in it.

wow... I can never get past your tank being so awesome, Greech! It's always epic!

The intake of the pump the NAC3 is set for right at 8". Hope that helps.

Like the sump a lot but I do miss the simplicity I once had. No regrets on adding it though and the extra water volume plus the ability to use a good in-sump skimmer has really benefitted my tank.

Thanks fishfriend.

3 interceptor treatments and 3 concentrated baths later and looking pretty good. Everyone seems fat and happy and all receding stopped. Scoly still looks like garbage in the evening but is well inflated during the day. Gonna be a long recovery for that one. Added a few things today. Went a little crazy but, well you know :)...

Meet the twins, "fun" and "gia" :)...

Yet another really crappy FTS (sorry all I have is my phone camera)...

There is also an Aurora goby and a red stripe pistol shrimp in there but I'm sure I won't see them for weeks, although I did coat some PVC "T's" in sand and rock rubble and buried those up front in hopes they like those spots. You can kind of see them around the acans at the bottom of the tank in the middle. I'll get some pics as soon as they show themselves.

How's your tank going streelerfan? Has the suspected bacterial bloom dissipated?
