Quick question... would the 12" Vertex Illumilux work on my size tank or the 24 "??
Another option is the Vertex Illuminux bars which I believe are dimmable...

I'm pretty much on the AI or Vertex realm at this point and strongly leaning towards the Vertex Illumina but it's gonna cost me :)

Not sure of the availability of the AI flares at this point.

I think I would go with the 24" and my suspicion is that you would need/want to hang it as the legs probably won't work since your tank is 30" long.

Personally I like lights that are suspended above the tank. Makes getting into the tank a lot easier and it just looks cleaner.

I called aquarium specialty. The did not have the AI Flare. Like you said, its not out yet. They suggested the 24" as well, but the whites not the blue. Im thinking about it. Or maybe just add the Ecoxotic to my current lights.

That's the problem with LEDs as it stands. Fixtures like the AI and Vertex Illumina give the ability to create almost whatever look/color you want through the ability to customize and dim the whites and blues but you certainly pay for that. The other advnatage to these brands anyway is that they are easily upgradeable as the technology develops.

For now I am happy with the T5/LED combo I have and I know what I want out of an LED so until I can afford what I want I am sticking with what I have.

Forgot to mention this one but a little easier on the pocket book. I was just on business down in Tampa and one of the LFSs there had this unit on one of there dispalys. It uses 3W Cree bulbs and you have the ability to control whites and blues separately for a "decent" price...

I'm going to do the same thing Greech, be happy with what I have and wait until I can afford or the prices come down a bit. I'll just add an LED to compliment the T5s. I would like to have a nice unit that is controllable and does all the fancy stuff but is also good with the corals and my wallet!:thm:

I have never seen them in person (want to) but I don't think you will be disappointed with those. They are expensive for a PAR38 type bulb. Seen quite a few reviews and folks seem happy with them. The company is a little weird about answering questions based on some vendor forums. Seems like a lot of specifics are conveniently danced around which is a little concerning.

I know a couple people around here that have tanks solely lit by PAR38's but they are all 7 LED bulbs with 3 watt Crees. One person has the nanotuners while the other has the excoxotic. Both give off a nice light but the optics are tight on both (40 degree) so it is a fairly focused light. I like that look a lot though. Gives the impression of sunbeams.

If you go the Orphek route I think you will want at least 2 bulbs. From the pics I have seen they have a little better spread than the other PAR38's and think I read a while back the coverage was about 16"x16" versus more of a 12"x12" spread on the other PAR38's . BTW these bulbs are suspended about 12" to 16" above the tanks.

I believe the nanotuners are about $90 so you could acyually get 3 of those for less and you would know you're getting a quality Cree based product with good customer service. Plus if you go with 3 you could get 2 of the 12Ks and one 20K or vice versus depending if you want a bluer or whiter look when all 3 are on.

Hey Graham, how do you like your Sicce Syncra Silent pump? Also, are you using the 800 gph Eshopps overflow? Why did you pick that size? Thanks...

How's the tank coming along????

I see that the Noles stole on of Bama's 2012 recruits!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... lol.

Love the Sicce. Was just talking about it today at the LFS. Rock solid flow and pretty much dead silent. Would buy another for sure.

I bought the 800 because I wanted to have a bigger drain for fine tuning and safety reasons. Could have used the 300 I guess but I wanted the flexibility of the bigger drain.

Ya they scheduled that before we played at Bama a couple of years ago. We got Oklahoma at home 3rd game this year :). Gonna be nuts around here for that one!

GO NOLES!
