greech's Simple 40 Breeder

Got a few too many corals at this point. Don't think I want to press it.

The MP-10 I got recently started to make a quite a bit of noise. Called Ecotech Marine and talked to John. I was pretty sure it was the dry side but John asked me to send it in. They checked out my pump the morning they received it, emailed me it was the dry side and had a new one out via Fedex the same day. Best part was it was no charge! I've read a lot of good reviews about Ecotechs customer service and how they stand behind their products but I was still floored and I fully expected to pay for the new dry side (~$100). Got the new pump on today and it is so quiet and works great! To celbrate here are a few better (but still crappy :)) pics...

Very nice! So I guess your not a fan of coralline algae on the back and overflow? ;) That scoly really stands out, that has to be the most expensive coral in the tank but I bet that fungia was a little pricey as well with those awesome colors.

Have you got a wave going in the tank yet with the vortech?

Ya, I'm a scraper, I confess :)

Actually the fungia was $35 and it is definitely one of my favs along with the scoly. They don't show up very well in the pics but I also just got a sunset and jedi mind trick monti which I like a lot.

The vortech is on reef crest at the moment and I haven't really messed with the pulse modes. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I like to do pulse mode when feeding, once you set it up correctly you just have to switch to the Blue setting and hit the middle button to recall the setting. To get it going you go to blue, turn it up (probably all the way on your tank, I have an MP40 on a 30" tank and go about 3/4 power) and then hit the middle button, this sets the speed, now you set the on/off so you turn the knob all the way down and leave it for a couple seconds and then veeeeeery slowly turn the knob clockwise and watch the surface of the water. There is a very narrow window to get a good wave going. Give it a tiny turn every 5 seconds until you see a synchronized wave. Once you have the wave set, hold the middle button until the light starts slowly pulsing. When it does that it will be programmed in so you just have to hit a button to go back to the wave.

If your splashing water out of the tank go back to step 1 and turn down the power a tad (I have never splashed water out even on full blast, but it gets within a 1/8th" from going over my eurobrace on full power.

Cool, thanks Ace! You know I have to try and get water out of the tank now :). Doubt I can with just the MP-10 though.

tank looks great.
