hello all:
I have a 75 gallon tank that i've had for years recently i bought 4 Green terror juveniles for it , they're getting along fine at the moment, but i think i have it overstocked, i appears that i may have 2 males and 2 females, but they're still pretty small 2 - 3 inches. Also any specific advice on keeping terrors would be great, i've kept other neotropical cichlids before, but this is my first attempt at a species tank.

I kept a pair in a 60 gallon along with 2 emerald catfish and 6 congo tetras for a couple of years.

I originally purchased three at about 1.5 inches. Fed them frozen bloodworms and Hikari gold at about 2 inches. At 2 inches, one jumped out of the tank when i was at school, found it behind the tank the next day, it jumped through and opening about 1;5"x3"

The pair had their first spawn at about 3.5 inches.
 
Green terrors are beautiful fish and one thing u gotta know is to give them a high grade diet to bring out their color. try something with high carotinoids like Hikari Cichlid Gold or krill or an occational goldfish, becareful not to put too many goldfish, only feed them feeders like once every two weeks to a month. Also they get pretty big, as big as 15 inches! They are not overly aggressive, they tend to be more territorial than plain out bullies, although there have been a few that made a liar out of me, also males get a hump on their heads when they mature. right now ur tank is fine but once they pair off than u will have to remove two of them or else there will be hell to pay! anyway just holla if u need more info.
 
I once had a blue acara jump out of the tank, too bad, i really liked that fish. when i first got them the lfs told me to feed them flakes, but thats mostly because that was what they were feeding them i am currently trying to switch them from flakes to wardley spectra maxx. the flakes are 46% crude protein, but messy, the specta max is only 40% crude protein but it is supposed to be a super premium fishfood, it was on sale, so I thought why not? does anybody know if this fishfood is really good, or am i wasting my money? the packaging says it contains "protobiotics" sounds like a sales pitch to me.
 
I have a pair of breeding GT's and the male is VERY territorial and THUGGISH. They have a batch of around 40 - 60 babies every other month like clockwork. As for the diet, I feed them Hikari Cichlid gold pellets as the staple, as well as frozen Beefheart, Bloodworms and Krill. Occasionally, I'll feed them live goldfish that I've quarentined for a week and fed a healthy diet. The male has that hump on his head already. Males are much better looking than the females, who can get QUITE nippy when mouth brooding.

i think you can have them until you have one pair... because the strongest pair will survive... hey can anyone post pics of their GT pairs cause i want to find a female for my male white saum.... andthe pics is because i would like to see them! :cool:

ok since noone answered that fish food question I will, The main things u need to look at are the protien contents anything over 35 % is good, any type of carotine ( color enhancer ), and vitamins espesually stabilized vitamin C. Hikari Cichlid Gold contains: Astaxanthin (a powerful color enhancer), 47% protein, Vitamin A 14,000 IU/kg, Vitamin C 75mg/kg, Vitamin D3 2,900 IU/kg, Vitamin E 280 mg/kg. Anyway Spectra sounds like a mediocre fish food and I would feed cichlids pellots instead of flakes because flakes dont pack that much nutritioun and ur cihlids would finish a thing of flakes in a matter of weeks, I would stick with pellots and a high grade i.e. Hikari Cichlid Gold.
 
Thanks It's very helpful. I guess I'm feeding the right stuff. I notice, If I feed them feeders to often the GT just eats the heads.
