Grins' 55g Reef

So tonight when the new shrimp hit the tank Butters immediately swam over to them nudging them and rubbing up against their feelers as if his shrimp was not only back but had duplicated into two.

My cleaner used to hitch a ride on the tang (no name, sorry), round and round the tank, cleaning him all the way. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Then tang went on attack mode and chomped his feelers, and the shrimp was constantly fleeing and eventually disappeared. Now the fish are confused because their cleaner is gone, so they harrass the coral banded to death. The CB tries so hard to be intimidating, but the fish just park right in front of him, waiting for a cleaning.

Yeah! It'll come charging out, guns blazing. The flame will lay on his side an give a suspicious look before finally giving up, the anthias will also make a pit stop, but the tang is especially persistant.

 I'm howling.. The GF is giving me dirty looks.. :)

Yeah they do.. I'm hoping the Anthias leads me to his name.. Sigh.. I hate trying to figure out animal names.

I'd be satisfied in just finding out what kind of Anthias I have.

I have a LFS that is comically bad at identifying livestock, and I couldn't do much better.

It was sold as a "tricolor anthias," but I believe I have it pinned down as a female dispar anthias (pseudanthias dispar.)

Impulse buy that worked out, I got lucky that it acclimated and began accepting flake right away.

Grins,
Been folowing this thread and looked at your last set of pics.
I am curious what your Ca, Alk, Mg, Nitrate, and Phosphate readings are.
I ask because there isn't any coraline algae showing up on the back of the tank and some of the rocks are green rather than encrusting in coralines.

As your reef progresses, the above readings become more critical for new growth on corals. Even LPS and Soft corals will benefit more from water parameters that are closer to levels found in a SPS reef.

I am thinking the addition of Warner Marine's phoSar HC to your canister filter would make a big improvement on the reduction of certain DOC's and phosphates. If you use this specific product keep in mind that it is much stronger than normal Granulated Ferric Oxides and the recommended dosages should be strictly followed.

Please LMK what test kits you are using also.
Thanks in advance, Rich

MRF. There is no coraline on the back because I scrape it each week. A great deal of the green on the rock is actually coraline algae. However with that said I have been having an issue with my Ca dropping and have recently begun to use a 2 part buffer on an aggressive schedule. The Ca is rising and should be up to 420 shortly.

I'm no longer using the canister by the way, I've kept it for when I need it but it isn't run 24/7.
