Grins' 55g Reef

Grins: how is your RBTA doing? The earlier pictures are beautiful. Did it ever go through a string tentacle phase? even when it was adjusting?

No, haven't seen that although it does expel water and waste on a daily basis. It is not in a place I'm loving right now as it is on the backside of a top rock. Still getting great light and flow, just now where I can see it without standing on the side. I'm dealing with it as it is eating every other day and growing as well as keeping good color. If it stays put and continues to grow I'll be seeing it easier before long.

Ahhh bta's will pick their space and there is nothing we can do to change their mind. Anemones are like small children.....they do what they want. As long as it is getting light and you can feed it I would leave it where it is. I tried 14k halides and I thought they were too blue so went back to the 10ks. I might try a different brand bulb and see if it makes a difference.

I buy my two part solution mix from

http://twopartsolution.com/

the price is right and the quality is excellent. Comes premeasured baggies that mix into 1gallon jugs. I also get my di resin here in bulk also.....great site....(I love the reef chili and so do my corals)

Yes, it is doing well where it is and I can reach it to feed it so I'm not attempting to move it. I think I'm going to be happy with a bluer tone because I my ballast is overdriven and I don't have actinic supplementation. I'm hoping bumping up the color will get the flouescent colors I'm seeing under the whiter light of the LED flashlight. If not I'm buying 2 T5s and running actinics..possibly the purple ones. I've got a great source for a 2 part, local and they even supplied it to me free while I got my parameters up.

You underestimate the power of the "force" young reef jedi.
How do you stop anemones like Long Tentacle and RBTA's from cruising the tank?
There is a 90% success rate of placing the anemone where you want it by using a small clay flower pot.
The flower pot surrounds the base/foot of the anemone and makes it "feel" safe. The anemone will stay where it is because it has a smooth, comfortable, safe spot to anchor itself.
The 10% failure rate is usually because of inadequate flow and light. Proper placement of the flower pot leads to a better success rate.
