Grins' 55g Reef

I've been using DT's phytoplankton and mine seems to be responding well.. Now she's only been in the tank close to a month but I never see her crown go in unless the tang is being uppity. I am trying growing my own FAF plankton right now, we'll see how that goes..

Meaning well fed. Sometimes a tad overfed if you have a good skimmer. But instead of that I just dose the reef bugs since I got some off another local club member:

Like most things in this hobby it is pricey.

When I'm done with it I'll probably restock with Reef Chili:

My LPS I feed meaty foods to....same stuff I give my goby. The naughty shrimp has to be hand fed the meaty stuff or he'll go over and steal mysis out out of my bubble's mouth.

I'm personally trying to not dose calcium and iodine. Just using a good reef salt (I use Oceanic but RC is good too of course), and keeping an eye on it. I don't plan on having too dense a SPS stocking but once I add clams I may have to start dosing calcium at the very least.

The pagoda cup is doing really well. Except for maybe 4 polyps all of them are out. The other 4 are still peeking through and the color looks fantastic:

I was a bit concerned about it and the rest of the stock when I came home. The temperatures in the Carolinas have been insane this week. 102 degrees and that isn't counting our legendary humidity so it feels like 120. When I got home the tank was at 86. No panic but I did float some ice and top off with cooler than normal water. Hammer perked right up and everything looks great.

Of course the dog"fish" look a wee bit hot

Oh...one last thing..take sympathy on your LFS workers in this summer heatwave. Hottest place EVER for an inside job has to be the fish department. With all those tanks the humidity is insane. I've stopped even trying to wear makeup or do my hair. :headshake2: A customer told me today he thought I was 17. Ha! He needs glasses and I need a huge fan at work.

love to goldens! i've got a mated pair... oh wait just kidding the male is just a pup still!

But i have two goldens, a 4 year old female and a 1 year old male. The female we are trying to breed, and should know in about 2 weeks if she is pregnant or not. Hopefully all goes well.

They are the best dogs ever, and i will never own another type. Before these two i had a nine year old that past away to due liver cancer. He was a really good dog, just like the two i own now.

Oh and ermmm nice coral to i guess.... (lol just kidding, looks awesome grins.)

These are mother and son. She is a retired show (whoops the word was edited ..sounds like witch). He was going to show as well but um...he had an issue COUGHuniballCOUGH so her bloodline will have to be content with her own litters.

And I'm loving this coral. It is becoming hard to go to work and not come home with something. First two days I came back with something, and today I was able to resist. Barely.

Great thread and awesome macro pics. I have a Nikon D70 SLR, but no macro lens yet...I love the point and shoots for that reason.

yeah, were thinking about show with him too. Payed through the roof for him, and he has a few west minster show dogs in his bloodline and such. So we'll see, your male is beautiful though. Said to hear about the undescended, otherwise he looks really good. He's got the nice big show golden male head, like mine does too... you gotta love it =).

Im looking at a part time job position at one of my LFS, but the quality of the place is not top of the line, and they want "experienced" help... which i guess means someone who has worked at a pet store before, not someone who knows a lot or claims to know a lot about the hobby like myself.

Did they say that to you? Most around here are glad to hire hobbyists. Shoot my entire interview was fish questions, stuff like "What is the ideal SG for the typical marine tank?"..blah, blah, blah. There is actually a ritzier LFS in town that I thought about working for but the manager of this one is my local club and I like his approach and willingness to not sell someone something if we think they shouldn't have it.

yeah, they said almost those exact words to me... that they are looking for more experienced people. Didnt even give me a chance.

I laid it all down for them, that i keep fish, and i know a lot about fish and what not, but they didnt seem to believe me.

Its probably just cause im young, just 18 so i cant possibly know much about this hobby... LOL
