My guppie Hoss, is breathing rapidly this morning. He is in a tank with another male guppis, Little Joe, and a ADF, Kermit. He is breathing rapidly so I dont know what to do. I am going to clean out the tank today. What should I do?

you have to condense your questions into one mail!! haa ha.
that sounds like high ammonia or nitrite depending on where you are in the cycle and you need to change your water to fix that. (Is your tank cycled?) Or you have a spike for other reasons....decomposing stuff for example.

test the water. post results.
whats the water temp?
I agree with lisa. could betons of things, i supose, but y guess is high nitrite. let us know asap

My water has some salt in it. Could that be it?

I doubt it.
am i rememberring correctly that you dont have testkits?
You really need to get some.
I recommend aquarium pharmaceuticals ( sorry aout that spelling lol) test kits for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. I think you said they were confusing.. but people here can help you figure them out. You will be reallly glad you got them if you do.
Sorry if i am misrememberring what you have said. But id definitely recommend a test kit if you dont have one.

I have a test kit but it tells you if you have something in your water by colors. I cant't read it. I will try to get another one.

you cant see colors?
if you can see colors, then you can use the test kit ok.
you dont have to be exactly exact *S.
there should be a card or something with some colors to match.
you see which color is kind of close to what you have, and then read the numbers next to that color. that will give you a good idea.
HERE IS A GOOD HINT>
I think someone said this befor but,
When you are testing for ammonia , or for nitrite, or for nitrate... the color that you get when you finish adding the drops to the test tube, is the 'zero' reading.
If that color changes at all, that means you have Some. with ammonia and nitrite that is ll you need to know. You want to have zero.
I say, unless you cant see color at al, give it a try, i will beon for a while more and would be interested in how it goes.

Definitely you need to test your water parameters. It's impossible for us to diagnose the problem without first ruling out water conditions. Definitely test, and let us know. If you can rule that out, or confirm that then we could go from there.

and while you're at it, get rid of the salt. unnecessary unless you are treating for ick.
