I now have 30 baby guppies in a 10g tank. (In floating container) Should I put them in there own tank or just go like in the wild and let them go in the tank with the rest of the adults???? Will they get eaten???

if the offspring is spotted by the larger guppies, they will be eaten. theres much more space in their natural habitat, along with plenty of hiding space. if you want them to survive, youll need a separate tank for them, and youll need to buy some fry food.

I have a 1g tank that I can put them in, that should work short term.

Thanks,

They will get eaten as soon as the adults see them.

The 1g might work for very short term. I'd be concerned about water quality and temperature in such a small tank. Is the 1 gallon heated, and does it have a filter? It may just be easier/preferable to keep them in a breeding net in the bigger tank for a while. That's what I'm doing with my platy fry until I can get the 20g going (the adults will get moved to the new tank and the fry will stay in the 10g.) The fry have been in the net for 1.5 weeks now, and are doing fine, will be a few more weeks before they get moved.

In terms of feeding fry, you will just need to use finely crushed flake food.

If I had baby guppies in my 10g I'll let them get eaten!! I don't have the room for more fishes and nobody would buy them around here that I know of. :-( That's why I don't have female just 2 males.

I've got a 20g guppy tank, and I've had many babies grow up to adulthood. I'm sure I"ve also had many get eaten. I don't separate pregnant females or anything, I just let nature take its course. I've got lots of live plants and other good hiding spots though. I do crush the flake food to a powder for the tiny ones, but that's about it. I"m not really wanting to be overrun with gupies, so I hope that several will be eaten... HOwever, many more are surviving! I suspect as the tank becomes more full of adult fish (as the babies grow up) more young will be eaten and the population will level off... we shall see.

I am pretty much the same as Emily... we have a 37 gallon tank that is well planted and just let all the guppies live together. I am sure some babies have been eaten but there are still MANY that make it to adulthood. I also primarily use crushed flake food. I feed the other inhabitants frozen blood worms and brine shrimp and try to mush those into smaller pieces as well as pouring in the juice that forms when they thaw for the fry.

Good luck! :)

The baby guppies are all in the 1g tank now. There are around 20 or so left...very hard to count. They seem to be doing fine. The 1g tank we bought about 6 months ago when we had babies the first time. It has been runnig every since. All the levels(ex.nitrites) are great. We raised the 1 surviving baby from the first round in this tank just fine. Now its a beautiful female in our 10g tank. The first bunch of babies kinda got screwed as we just bought the 1g tank and threw them in it, not knowing about the cycling part of fish tanks. Hopefully we will have a few more survive and grow into adults this time. I will keep you all posted on how they are doing!!! Now I just have to get the nitrite level down in my 70g......I still can't believe my fish are still alive in this tank????

They would have been better off if you'd just thrown in a large clump of java moss. The fry would feed off the insuforia that surround all plant life, and when older they could catch piece of flake or other food that drifted down to them.

I'd keep checking the water in the 1g tank, and do regular changes. It's likely taht with nothing to eat (no fish producing waste) the good bio-bugs have died off. You can seed the tank with a good squeeze from the filter of the 10g tank though to help. I"d expect your levels of most stuff to be zero right now, as the fish haven't been in there long, but look for some spikes soon... If you do a filter squeeze and regular testing/water changes, you should do alright though.
