Do guppies go with goldfish? (If the gf's aren't big enough to eat the adult guppies?) The gf's would regulate the population and you'd still have guppies.
goldfish + 10 gallon = not a good idea ;)

if u buy a few new gups every month or so the new genes would stop this id imagine
I wasn't specifically talking about inbreeding (although that certainly would be a problem) more so that 1000+ guppies in a 10 gallon would be a horrible living situation in general.

I bought a dozen feeder, eight were healthy enough to survive. Of these there we no males. The first batch of fry was almost all males after 1 year I can only tell you that there are at least 50 or so but it is difficult to count them.

I have been free breeding fancy guppies for about 5 years in a 30gl tank.I picked 5 color types 1 male for each 3 females plus a few extra for a total of 50 fish more/less. They do pretty much self regulate.dead of winter I'm down to between 30to50 by mid summer I may have as many as 300. I do pull off the red ones and the ones with bad shaped fins and bodys. The females will hold male sperm for close to 6 months before using it to drop new fry

What's wrong with the red ones?

The red ones are the most commen color morph.so if you don't feed them to something and keep the numbers down you will have nothing but reds
