I would like to know where to read and research on how to install hard plumbing into my aquarium. ignoring the glass drilling work, what do i need in terms of fittings and such.

Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC and fittings. Schedule 80 is overkill, and parts like unions and ballvalves will be ALOT more expensive than Schedule 40. Do not use DWV (Drain, Waste, Vent) on the pressure side of the system, but its ok for the drains.

i know/saw schedule 40 stuff, but i dont know exactly what i need...i know like ells and pipes, but i dont know anything about flanges...like how do you seal the hole through the glass ya know? like don't i need gaskets....and a nut and a washer... i looked at some websites, and they dont offer it with the piping and i dont notice any threading on the pipes and the ells available so how does it all connect (excluding the parts where you just add pvc cement) because i know the connections through the glass are threaded, i've seen something like that on tanks at lfs'.

need more info on what all you are plumbing, sched 40 is fine, deff. need bulkheads for going through the glass, unless plumbing over the rim, what all u tryin to plumb in.

just some outflows (2 spray bars) and 2 holes to back to the filters...ah, they are called bulk heads? ahhh

yup, bulkheads for going through the glass, google diy bulkheads if you wanna build your own, but i personally just fork over and buy them to be extra safe, the rest is pretty much self explanatory, but if there's any other thing particular just ask.

so for my intake, i'd get something like this

http://www.aquacave.com/bulkhead-kit-assemblybr-by-pentair-aquatics-1213.html

and for one spray bar, i would need
mpt/hose barb 90 elbow
and mpt/slip joint 90 elbow..and spraybar (just clear pvc pipe with holes)

and an end cap
unless i can find a union (that really doesnt connect the flow between the 2 pipes) so i can have "1 spray bar"
the closest thing i can think of, that is like that, would be to a valve, and put it in closed position, but thats not aesthetically pleasing.

and that should do it!

ps do i need those bulkhead adapters, it looks like black plastic/rubber washers

that on in the pic looks like it's made for a vinyl type hose to connect, not really hard pvc, they sell pvc bulkheads at home-depot or lowes and for the spraybar just go from the bulkhead to a 90 to a piece of pvc with a bunch of holes and the end cap, or if your bulkhead is in the center of the tank go from the bulkhead to a "T" and two pieces of pvc the holes and cap them both.

o, i should have explained how i have my tank set up :) i have 2 filters. so 1 at each end essentially. and to make it look like 1.
