Nice start! But your plants need to be pulled up a tiny bit. You want the "crown" (where the roots & leaves meet) to be slightly above the substrate. Gently pull them up a little.

The java fern would be very happy tied with sewing thread or gel super glued onto the barrel decoration. It & the anubias have a sideways "rhizome" that both leaves & roots grow from that must not be buried or the plant may die. It's ok if the roots are buried (but they don't have to be) but NOT the rhizome.

Wow, I had no idea about that. Thank you so much for the advice! I'll try to get that fixed as soon as I'm able. I need to research these plants more; at the moment, I'm just "winging" the plant setups. I have a feeling that that strategy might change quite soon as I get deeper into the fishkeeping hobby.
