Hello, thanks, and tank pics....

Very Nice tank, and fish. Love the Severum.

Beautiful severum, and very nice rainbows. I like it how you got similar species in small numbers so you had a kind of school with a lot of variety :)

Welcome back to the hobby. :welcome:

For 15 years off, you did a very nice job with that tank. Your mention of smartheaters caught my eye: how do you like them, so far? (I'm considering putting one on an XP2) Does the heater slide over a good length of the intake tube like a sleeve, or or does it attach at the end?

I am really glad I got the Rena Smartheaters. They are about a foot long, and attach to the end of the intake tubes. I have just one of the extension tubes attached to the intake, then the Smartheaters.

I went this way for three reasons. The first is that it is one less thing hanging in the tank. I wanted to have as clean a look as possible, and by combining the intake tube with the heater it has a very nice clean look. The heater itself is also a very clean design, and looks great in the tank.

The second is that the heated water is dispensed via the spray bar, so with two of them running, it should create an even temperature throughout the tank. No hot or cold spots.

The third is that by having two heaters, if one were to fail, there would be a another still servicing the tank.

I hope that helps.

Phew!, Wow, thats some great filtration! Great tank and fish as well! Gregg, if I may ask, what lighting is that? It looks splendid! I currently have this lighting called "Lighting Rod" It's 20 watts and it's by the company Quantum Aquatics on my 55 gallon. Tank is looking quite low-light dull and i am considering to upgrade immediately. Tank is 19 inches tall, 31 inches wide, and 18 inches for the sides. Quite frankly, I'm really disappointed with my lighting. If you can help me out, I would really, really appreciate it!! :D

It's funny you mention the lighting. My lighting is two simple All-Glass strip lights with 15w flourescent 8000K full spectrum All Glass Aquarium Spectrum bulbs. It wasn't my original choice, but here's what happened.

After reading reviews on the web, I actually purchased two Current Satellite Dual Daylight strips. I was very excited when they arrived, and couldn't wait to get them going. When I put them on the tank, I found them to be too bright, and the color spectrum made the whole tank "glow" in a bluish light. I have fake plants, and I find the super bright light made them look more fake.

I went out and bought one All-Glass strip light to compare. I put one on each side of the tank, so I could see them both at one time. The side with the regular flourescent looked much more natural and peaceful.

With any light I think the "color" of the light is as importants as the brightness. I had one of my flourescent go out, and ran out to Home Depot to replace it. I brought home two different bulbs, and each one made the tank look completely different. I ended up returing them and getting the proper All-Glass brand replacement, which I am very happy with.

This is not a knock against the Current Satellite. I am sure many love the look they provide, and if I had live plants, they may be the right thing. The fact is for me the tank just looks more natural and peaceful with my regular old flourescent lighting.

Welcome to AC. I guess the 15 years did not harm you in any way. Your tank looks fantastic and I love the placement of the plants and driftwood. It looks really natural. I love the rainbows. They are very beautiful fish to watch cruising through the tank. The severum is beautiful. He is truly a gentle giant. Keep up the good work. Looks great!
