Help Fin Rot and Gill Flakes..and TAIL ROT

btw, is there any expired or unused leftover antibiotics at home (although such shouldve been disposed of)?

Although it is true that most of s/w pathogens will not transmit to f/w, I would not trust that as primary source of their diet. I would prefer to stick to f/w fish as main diet where SH will benefit from proper nutrients and vice versa.

Besides, I dont know of any s/w which are considered feeders unless you can catch your own in quantity.

Breeding/Raising feeders at home is not easy task unless one has large ponds in the back yard.

If and when possible, you may try to keep feeder in tank designated as feeder tank in immaculate condition where I used to flush the system with constant running cold water 24/7/365. It took me while to house 500/1000 feeders in 33/55G for long time w/o developing diseases and w/o constant flushing. If feeders came with invisible symptoms/problems, I will take care of it before using. Sometimes, I did euthanize whole batches of feeders if I felt it was too risky or uncurable. Such batches will get processed into homemade frozen s/w fish food.

I believe there was program on Animal Planet couple of weeks ago called " River Monster" on the topic of SH. I just wish there were more scenes of SH in their natural habitat which I wouldve stay up all night to watch if i had to.
Has anyone watched/watches this program?

Anyway, Hope it isnt anything serious!!

pimafix and melafix are not available on our nearest lfs..it is available on the next lfs i think 4-5hrs drive and i think i cant go on that lfs coz' im too busy
the available on the nearest lfs on my place are methylene blue and ocean free general aid kit..

there are lots of s/w fishes here especially on the market.

i think breeding feeder fishes is not possible on my home coz lack of space :))

yeah i watched river monsters on animal planet..i like the coloration and pattern of the SH featured on their episode harhar my SH is still juvenile even though he is 20" long coz it has red coloration on his body

I wonder how hard or high your pH is in SH tank with all those corals???
You can even use ph test kit avail thru hardware if possible in your town.

Although I dont consider Mela/Pima a remedy, I guess it would be better than nothing.
If you can get to lfs, look for any erythromycin (MAracyn) or even penicillin.

Even left over antibiotic meant for family members is better than nothing.

Btw, google DIY pH test kit. You may able to find alternative methods until actual kit can be obtained. I dont remember the details anymore but you should be able to find info. Try chem/biochem forum or other fish forum.

im also a member of mfk i tried to shift on pellets and superworms..but my sh doesnt want to accept these kind of food he only accept live fish and live mice

You feed live mice? I would be careful with that. Mice can pack quite a bit and could hurt your snakehead. I've read that much mammal fat isn't good for them. Especially if he's getting them every weekend.

I would try adding some worms or market fish to his diet. In the wild they mostly eat other fish and I can't imagine goldfish are very healthy.

Anyway back on subject. Can the lfs test your water for you? Having the parameters can really help determine what is going on. In the mean time I would order a test kit online. He may have gotten these illnesses from the feeders you are giving him. I would quarantine the goldfish longer than 2 days. At least 2 weeks is needed. Also feed them really good pellet food while they are in QT. That will help pass on some nutrition to your snakehead.

It takes time for fish to accept new foods.

Keep trying...even if he does not eat for a few days he wont just starve to death. Again, feeding just live foods is not healthy.

As blue said you really need to get the parameters. Without knowing those it's impossible to rule out water quality as the underlying cause.
