Help me pick inhabitants for my new 28 gallon tank!

Really love Harlequin Rasbora. They are happy active little fish. 1 dwarf Gouramie would be nice, 2 and they fight. I also vote for cories because again, they are happy and buzz around the tank. I had this combination and the gourmie hid most of the time but the other 2 groups were all over the place.

Is there a centerpiece fish that isn't so shy or was it just mine?

Lilly my dwarf gourami is not at all shy he thinks he's a puppy actually but I have just added 4 cory and they sure do buzz around causing more disruption than usual it does seem to knock the usual stress free environment off abit but my DG doesnt' seem to mind too much.

dwarf gouramis are pretty cool fish. your tank would look great with a dwarf gourami as the centerpeice fish and a group of 12 cardinal tetras and 4 panda or schwartz's corydoras as your schooling fish.

BTW, angels are not that aggressive even though they are labled as such. the only reasons i can think of that they would be labled as semi aggressive is because they can get a bit territorial during breeding ans that they will eat neons and other tiny fish.

sounds great. I think an angel would be neat but being a beginner, I want to start off as easy as possible. If I really get into teh hobby, then I'll perhaps do another tank. So anyways, Went to the petstore today and wrote down the varieties that they have. After I do some more specific research on them, I'll try to make a list of what I'd like and see waht you all think.

On another note, I was intrigued by the Silver Molly's. I havent heard any talk about them so far. What do you think?

mollies are pretty cool. were they sailfin mollies or a different type? regardless, its best to have 3 females per male in a tank to keep aggression between males down. if you wanted two males youd have to get six females, which would fully stock your tank.

good to know, thanks.

So whats the deal with guppies? When I go to stores, they are generally listed as beginner fish but I have gotten the impression that they may not be for beginners...

I'm not sure if your loaches will get on with the following but here's a wonderful peaceful community

1 Dwarf Gourami
12 neon tetra
8 Harlequin Rasbora
4 Cory (same species)

Going by the 1" rule, isnt this going to be way overpopulated?

Alright, I think I finally decided on my population. After many sleepless nights (haha) I think the following would go well together in my 29 gallon:

1 Dwarf Guorami
6 Harlequin Rasbora
6 Glowlight Tetra
6 Pygmy Corys (my normal pet store doesn't have these, going to have to search around. If they don't, I'm going to have to find another small cory so as not to overload the tank)
