I have a Whisper 60 power filter. It is so noisy. I have to wear earplugs to sleep because it is in my room. Recently I have lost my earplugs and for the past two night I get woken up by the filter and then get a headache. I don't think I should wear earplugs to sleep in my own room. I need suggestions of a quieter or silent HOB or canister filter.
:help:

Any canister filter I have ever heard has been pretty silent. AC filters are definitely the quietest I have heard for HOB, as the Penguins get kind of splashy if the water drops much at all...

AC's are also far better than a Whisper as far as filters go. Might be worth the investment on that alone.

If the noise is coming from the filter itself and not just the sound of the water splashing into the tank, it may be air getting into the filter. If you have an air stone or bubble wand, you may want to consider moving it to the opposite side from the filter intake. Just something I read along the line and thought it might help.

I have a 55 gallon newly planted tank. There is no air stones or bubble wands. The noise is coming from the filter not the water. I tried the instructions to get air out. It sound like a loud fridge.

I have the same filter on my 38gal and I don't have any problems with it being noisy. I can hear it running, but it is fairly quiet.

ACs are very noisy filters, I had to get rid of mine, too used with canisters.

Try EHEIM ECCO

Try EHEIM ECCO canister they are so quiet that you need to put your ear on the filter to check see if it is running, RENA is also quiet and cheaper, but I would use EHEIM if it was in my bed room.

I run 5 EHEIM filters(super quiet),
3 marineland HOB (too much noise),
1 RENA xp3,(quiet)
1 sump filter,
1 aqua clear (noise from the lid, other wise quiet),

I had Whispers on all my tanks before switching to different kinds, and I never noticed the Whisper filters making noise like that. I think either there is something interfering with the impeller, or the filter is defective.
