Sorry Steve, for your loss of the corys. Sounds like you tank is getting in better shape, though. Just be sure to keep the water changes going to keep those nitrites down.
Try to get Prime. I can't tell you how much this can help your tank occupants. Prime, and I think one other one, Amquel, detoxify the nitrites and ammonia for at least 24 hours, giving you breathing room and time to do water change to remove them. Prime is the less expensive one, and it works great.
Other conditioners remove chlorine, chloramine, but don't detoxify nitrites and ammonia.
