Please help!
My heater seems to be broke...I set it at 79* then it goes to 82* so I lower it to 74* then it goes to 79*
So I have it set to 82* but its really 83*
But then if I set it 1 degree lower, it go's about 3* lower then I want it!
I have to set it 2 times a day..and this is really stressful to the fish!

How do I fix it?:help:

Um... how much is that?
I have the allglass aquarium 100w heater...

I do have a 50w heater, ill try that and see if it keeps a steady temp;)

If I were you, I'd check BigAlsonline, Drs.Foster&Smith, Petco, Petsmart.

Printout the cheapest 100W Visitherm Stealth details page you can find (w/ price), then take it to your nearest PetSmart and ask 'em if they pricematch their online competitors. That's how I got 250mL Prime for $4.99.

I'm guessing you can get a 100W one for <<$30, probably <$20.

$17.99 for 100 watts units at PetSmart with price matching-just got 2 the other day for my new 55...

Well, when you have it set to 74f does it keep a steady 79f? If so why keep adjusting it? I have an older marineland heater that holds a decent 78f when set at 74f. I just set it there and don't worry about it.

Sometimes 79* is 80* or sometimes it can go up to 85*!

but ill try that pricematch thing;)

Hmmm.

Yes, your heater could be flaky or just quite normal. You can't go by the markings on the heater as they are never accurate.

I go by my digital thermometer, and my temp range is typically 79-82. That fluctuates with the temperature in the house primarily. My heater is set at 76 by the way. I want it between 80-82 so that's fine.

If I had a digital thermostat in the house, the ambient temps might be more stable, and if I used a digital heater controller, I'd probably be spot on... But I don't and you probably don't want to spend over $100 just for the digital heater controller.... :)

It's quite normal for your tank to swing a few degrees. Mine will swing those three degrees every now and then, but over the course of 24+ hours... hardly a significant shock to the fish, and I would bet much more stable than in the wild.

there are a lot of things that can cause temp to fluctuate.. drafts, heaters(proximity) windows. aquarium lights etc.
al things equal..and the temp fuctuates..I'd replace the heaters. adding the second smaller heater may hep a bit. I added a second heater to my 29 and the temp stabilized. I was having simiar issues.
try it ..if it doesn't help then look into getting a new heater.
