Help the victims of Katrina!

And you are a ................?

I have to agree with Watcher. They tell them to evacuate, but these people still stayed. Then to top it off, they live in low lying swamp land on the coast. I don't see the logic in giving to people when they haven't made the brightest of decisions. I know I am probably going to get a bashing for this.

That doesn't justify calling people names. I just took that comment as face value...calling someone a dork. No need for that.

I didn't see his comment in any way stating what you did. You made a valid statement. Not sure what I would have done, and living in good old land locked centrall IL I won't have to make the decision. I have dogs and I bet they weren't welcome at the shelters. I couldn't go off and leave them.

The "victims" of the storm include those who evacuated...I'm sure they lost homes and belongings and are in need of assistance too, and that is also who the Red Cross helps...everyone. This is projected to be the biggest natural disaster in this coultry to date.

I hope you don't see this as bashing, but pointing out that you're not seeing the big pic here.

For the other people that actually listened. How would you fell if you were able to flee, but your house was gone along with everything that was in it.

I would be devistated, but that is why I have home owners insurance that covers natural disaters. My home took damage last year in Florida, but I was able to get it back together in a somewhat timely manner. I would rather risk my possessions than my life. The possessions can be replaced, but not the life.

I was born and raised in Florida and I know the results of hurricanes and their unpredicability. What really gets me is this. These people knew the risks of staying there even though they were told to leave. So I see it as that they are reaping what they sowed. I know that sounds cold hearted, but I guess when people don't use the brains god gave them then I don't feel to sorry.

I don't know this for fact but my guess would be that an aweful lot of the people that didn't evacuate and were injured or killed stayed because they had no where else to go and no money to do it with. These same people may not carry the same insurance most of us would for the same reason.

I think those are the folks that need help and I do feel sorry for them. Its not easy to relocate to another "safer" place when you can't even really afford to live where you are.

Now, idiots who build shore front homes on stilts are a different story as are the braggarts who stay because "no storm is chasing me out of my home"

Alright, alright. Kasakato, I apologize for calling names.

It was mainly the
Lets name this operation "AC Helping Hand"
thing that made me say it.

I'm sorry if I upset anyone and I will keep my thoughts to myself. On most boards I've been on, calling someone a name like that would be the most minor of grievances commited. Maybe I've been running with too thick-skinned a group.

But really, if something like that is going to upset you, I recommend staying off any forum that isn't hosted on a Disney server. It gets pretty bloody out here.
