I wasn't disagreeing at all. I just wanted to clarify things for the OP. To my knowledge, Tech M does nothing for Derbesia sp. and similar algal species. It only seems to be effective against Bryopsis, as you say.
 
ok i had my water tested by my lfs and they use a test strip then if any thing is high they use an api test kit, they said every thing is good, i picked up a protien skimmer while i was there and came home and tested my twice the first time it came up 7.4 so i dumped the water out rinsed it out with clean ro water and tested onece more and it came up fine at around 8.0
 
yea i was happy when i found that out and thanks all for the info now i just have to scrub all the algae off every thing
 
What type of skimmer did you get? If it is a coralife there is a easy to do mod that is easily reversible if you don't like it. It makes the skimmer more efficient and more reliable.
 
I've heard the sapphire skimmers work well with these and perform a bit better.

Edit: I just want to stress that this is what I've heard. I have zero experience with either skimmer, but I've heard enough bad about the stock biocube skimmer and enough good about the Sapphire, that it seems like a valid option.
